Elijah "Eli" Pfeiffer
Landscape Architecture Analyst with Kimley HornMr. Pfeiffer is a Landscape Architecture Analyst with Kimley-Horn working out of their Twin Cities office in Saint Paul, Minnesota. He has a BLA in Landscape Architecture from the Pennsylvania State University, with a desire to pursue a masters degree in the future. Eli has worked on a multitude of different projects with Kimley-Horn, such as Metro Transit’s Blue Line Extension from Downtown Minneapolis into the northwest metro suburbs. During his time in Pennsylvania, Eli worked closely with Dan Marriott on Rethinking 322, a community-driven advocacy project. This project aims to deliver alternate concepts for communities facing a highway widening project in the heart of Penns-Brush Valley. This work also included collaboration with Ian Lockwood, as he along with Alex McKeag and Cindy Zerger from Toole Design were invited to further advocacy and design efforts. Through this experience, Eli has aimed to specialize in corridor design and community collaboration. Thoroughly believing in community-driven solutions to corridor improvement, with emphasis put on public transportation, multimodalism, and breaking from our uniquely American style of automobile dependency.
Robert Searns
Robert Searns and Associates, Inc. in Littleton, COMr. Searns has a five-decade history of visualizing, planning, and getting trails and greenway projects built. He was project director of Denver’s Platte River and Mary Carter Greenways, which were both national-award-winning projects. He helped plan the Grand Canyon NP Greenway and played a key role in planning the Memphis Wolf River Greenway. He served as national chair of American Trails, was a founding member of the Board of The World Trails Network and was a delegate to the White House Great America Outdoors Conference. He authored Beyond Greenways: The Next Step for City Trails and Walking Routes (One of 10 “Best Books of 2023” from the American Society of Landscape Architects/ The Dirt) and co-authored Greenways: A Guide to Planning Design and Development, both published by Island Press. He currently writes for the Island Press Short Form Project. He has written for Public Square, Landscape Architecture, American Trails, LA China and Planning magazines and the Island Press Urban Resilience Project. He has hosted numerous Webinars, interviewed on multiple podcasts, and has been a keynote speaker as well as a trainer for the U.S. National Park Service, American Planning Association and the Urban Land Institute. Structural Engineer in Summerville, SCMr. Brislin has been a professional engineer for more than 21 years and he has designed many structures and performed many different types of analysis in that time. He has worked for a steel fabricator, an architectural/engineering firm and a seismic consultant, and he has been in private practice for over 13 years. Mr. Brislin earned his BSCE degree from The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina, and his MSCE degree from the University of South Carolina. He has completed all his course work for his PhD degree but has not completed his dissertation. His graduate study work has been in mathematical elasticity. Mr. Brislin has worked on a wide variety of projects from arenas such as Gund Arena in Cleveland, Ohio, and the Edward Jones Arena in St. Louis, Missouri, to renovation and seismic retrofit of the South Carolina State House and the design of the Columbia South Carolina Museum of Art. He has done stress analysis on weapons systems for the Department of Defense and has consulted on cellular telephone concealment projects. Mr. Brislin’s company routinely performs modal analysis of structures to provide more accurate seismic loads and to reduce the cost of seismic requirements through more advanced analysis techniques. The company is knowledgeable concerning structural dynamics and can perform a full dynamic analysis for complicated structures, and ductility requirements in concrete and masonry as well as welded steel moment connection requirements on toughness of steel.

Eric Cheng, PhD, CEng, FIEEE, FIET
Professor, Electrical Engineering at University of California, in MercedMr. Cheng is a highly accomplished electrical engineer, having earned his BSc and PhD from the University of Bath in 1987 and 1990, respectively. Prior to joining the Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 1997, he held the position of Principal Engineer at Lucas Aerospace in the United Kingdom, where he led several power electronics projects. Professor Cheng is widely recognized for his significant contributions to the development of electric vehicles in Hong Kong. He is affectionately known as the “father of Electric Vehicle” in Hong Kong, having served as the electrical designer for the city’s first commercial electric vehicle and led his team in designing the first charging network. His expertise in electrical engineering, energy, and automotive has earned him numerous awards, including the Seoul International Invention Fair 2015 Gold prize for his contributions to super-capacitors for electric vehicles, the 2016 iCAN Gold Medal for his work on active suspension, and the Gold Award of Hong Kong Innovation and Technology in 2017. Additionally, he received the Geneva’s Invention Expo Silver Award for his work on the antilock braking system, the top 20 Tera Award in 2021, and the Innovation Award of the TechConnect 2023 and Geneva’s Invention Expo Silver Award 2024 for his contributions to the development of an Ammonia Powered Fuel Cell-based Electric Vehicle. Professor Cheng is an accomplished writer and has published over 500 papers and 7 books, as well as given over 200 interviews with the media on his research and development. He currently is professor with the University of California, Merced, where his research interests encompass all aspects of Power electronics, Power Quality, Renewable Energy, Motor Drives, Energy Storage, Energy Saving, Power Distribution, EMI, High-Speed Rail, Electric Vessel, Electric vehicles, and advanced Automotive components. Professor Cheng is a chartered engineer and a fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET). He is also the Vice President Education of IEEE Transportation Electrification Council of IEEE. His outstanding contributions to the field of electrical engineering have earned him a well-deserved reputation as one of the leading experts in the field.

Postdoctoral Researcher with Institute of Transportation Studies at UC DavisDr. Karanam is a Postdoctoral Researcher with Institute of Transportation Studies at UC Davis. She specializes in sustainable transportation, with a focus on electric vehicles (EVs). Her background includes a PhD in Transportation Technology and Policy, as well as an M.S. and B.S. in Computer Science. Dr. Karanam’s current work uses data-driven approaches to better understand EV driving and charging behaviors. She studies the driving and charging behavior of EV users and develop tools to promote ethical, energy-efficient decisions throughout the EV supply chain. Dr. Karanam’s goal is to combine advanced machine learning techniques with transportation insights to help accelerate the adoption of sustainable mobility solutions.
Greggory "Gregg" Kresge, Ph.D.
WRI Senior Manager, Utility Engagement and Transportation ElectrificationMr. Kresge focuses on school bus electrification and vehicle-to-grid (V2G) integration. Prior to joining WRI, he was the Electrification of Transportation-Project Delivery Manager for Hawaiian Electric servicing the islands of Hawaii, Maui, Lanai, Moloka`i and Oahu. In various capacities over a span of 12 years, he worked in two separate island utilities. Mr. Kresge was also the Co-chair of the Smart Electric Power Alliance (SEPA) EV Working Group. He is an EV owner since 2013 and lives in a condominium with no access to dedicated charging and is looking forward to increased public charging options. Senior Fire Protection Engineer with HalliwellMs. Martin is a Senior Fire protection Engineer at Halliwell. John Squerciati, PE, CFM
Senior Associate at Dewberry Engineers, Inc. in Fairfax, VirginiaMr. Squerciati has over 26 years of post-disaster damage assessment and hazard mitigation experience under Dewberry’s Technical Assistance Contracts with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). He has worked on numerous floods and other natural disasters as well as terrorist events. Mr. Squerciati has provided assistance in developing and updating several FEMA policy and technical documents including Protecting Building Utilities From Flood Damage (FEMA P-348), Mitigation Assessment Team Report: Hurricane Katrina in the Gulf Coast (FEMA 549), Flood Damage-Resistant Materials Requirements (NFIP Technical Bulletin 2), Protecting Manufactured Homes from Floods and Other Hazards (FEMA P-85), Engineering Principles and Practices for Retrofitting Flood Prone Residential Buildings (FEMA P-259), Hurricane Isaac in Louisiana Mitigation Assessment Team Report (FEMA P-938), Floodproofing Non-Residential Buildings (FEMA P-936), Mitigation Assessment Team Report – Hurricane Sandy in New Jersey and New York: Building Performance Observations, Recommendations, and Technical Guidance (FEMA P-942), and Mitigation Assessment Team Report – Hurricanes Irma and Maria in Puerto Rico (FEMA P-2020). Mr. Squerciati currently serves on flood-related technical standard committees for both the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and ASTM International.
Mr. Squerciati has developed course materials and served as an instructor for the following courses at FEMA’s Emergency Management Institute: Multi-Hazard Mitigation Design Concepts (E312), Retrofitting Flood-Prone Residential Buildings (E279), Benefit-Cost Analysis (E276), Public Assistance Mitigation (E239), Residential Coastal Construction (E386) and Advanced FEMA Building Science Concepts (E2460). In addition, he assisted in the development of materials and been an instructor for numerous field training workshops, webinars and online seminars for Substantial Damage estimation, structural flood-proofing, NFIP technical bulletins, coastal construction, protecting manufactured homes from flooding, and Benefit-Cost Analysis (BCA). Mr. Squerciati received his undergraduate and graduate degrees in civil engineering from the Cooper Union with a major in structural engineering and a minor in geotechnical engineering. He has taken additional course work on engineering for extreme winds at Texas Tech University. Mr. Squerciati is a licensed Professional Engineer in the Commonwealth of Virginia and the State of Louisiana and is a Certified Floodplain Manager.
