Author of The Professional Amenity Plant Appraisal HandbookIn the late 1970’s and early 1980’s, Mr. Shaw grew up in the sleepy little Appalachian town of Bristol, Tennessee, a small city that rests on the boundary between the two states of Tennessee and Virginia. Upon graduation from Bristol Tennessee High School, he enlisted in the United States Navy where he served as ships baker aboard the USS Shark (a fast attack submarine) for four years. When his enlistment came to an end, he took a job selling lawn care service to residential owners in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and later, moved to Knoxville, Tennessee where he worked as general manager of a landscape contracting company while attending the University of Tennessee for Ornamental Horticulture and Landscape Design. Eventually, Mr. Shaw took over as president of a wholesale tree care supply business and built the company from $70,000 in sales to over $1.2 million in just seven years. During that time, he married his wife Kristin and they had two children together. With encouragement from Kristin he also developed an interest in arboricultural consulting, and on May 11th, 1999, he became the first American Society of Consulting Arborist (ASCA) member in Middle Tennessee. From 1998 to 2003, he also served on the Tennessee Urban Forestry Council. Mr. Shaw has since consulted with private landowners, insurance companies, attorneys, tree companies, cooperative extension service agents, country clubs, state urban forestry organizations, universities, and colleges. He has worked on some of the most challenging, difficult, and highest profile cases across the United States. Mr. Shaw is a registered consulting arborist, a board-certified master arborist and one of only a handful of arborists worldwide who consult full-time. He is a UAS pilot, a real estate appraiser and he brings a broad range of skills from a variety of scientific and professional disciplines. An autodidact, Mr. Shaw brings a unique perspective and a talent for learning to any project. He has developed authoritative expertise to create a greater understanding in tree related matters.

Assistant Professor & Extension Specialist of Urban Forestry College of Forestry, Wildlife and Environment Auburn UniversityDr. Arseniou completed his Bachelor’s in Forestry and Natural Environment at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Greece, his Master’s in Photogrammetry and Geoinformatics as a DAAD scholar at the University of Applied Sciences of Stuttgart in Germany, and he completed his PhD in Forest Measurements, Modeling and Urban Ecology at the Forestry Department at Michigan State University, USA. He is an Assistant Professor and Extension Specialist of Urban Forestry at the College of Forestry, Wildlife and Environment at Auburn University and the Alabama Cooperative Extension System. Dr. Arseniou’s research focuses on understanding the structure and function of urban forests using remote sensing methods (Terrestrial Laser Scanning). His extension focuses on building educational programs related to urban tree maintenance and management for professionals in urban forestry and arboriculture, while assisting municipalities and communities in Alabama to develop accurate urban forest inventories and efficient urban forest management plans.
Alicia Coleman
Assistant Professor of Urban and Community Forestry at the University of MinnesotaDr. Coleman’s research interests include 1) the equitable and just allocation of urban forest resources; 2) the tools, techniques, and planning processes behind arboricultural and urban forestry decision making; 3) effectively measuring the impacts of trees and forests in cities. Before joining UMN, she was a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Applied Forest Ecology Lab at the University of Connecticut, working with Dr. Robert Fahey and CT Department of Energy and Environmental Protection. She holds a PhD in Regional Planning from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, a Master of Environmental Studies from the University of Pennsylvania, a Bachelor of Science in Behavioral Science from Wilmington University, and a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Geographic Information Systems from Penn State University. Alongside academia, Dr. Coleman spent several years in non-profit land conservation in Massachusetts metropolitan areas, working on land protection assessments, land stewardship and restoration projects, and outreach programs.
Kevin Dietsche
Assistant Professor, Engineering and Technology Department University of Wisconsin-Stout Menomonie, WIDr. Dietsche is an assistant professor at the University of Wisconsin-Stout working in the engineering and technology department. He is a dual certified welder and teaches project-based coursework utilizing high impact practices (HIPS). Coursework of which have included welding, fluid power, mechatronics, design for industry, and product development. Serving degree programs such as engineering technology, technology education, business administration, packaging, and manufacturing engineering. Prior to teaching at UW-Stout he was a Technology Education instructor at Antigo Middle and High School in Eastern Wisconsin. Dr. Dietsche earned his Bachelor of Science degree in technology education (2011), his Master of Science in Career and Technical Education (2014) and his Doctor of Education degree in Career and Technical Education Leadership (2018).
He has been blessed with a wife and five children who he enjoys spending his time with. Dr. Dietsche’s wife and kids live on a small-scale sheep and beef farm in Western Wisconsin where He is beginning to test for genomic-enhanced breeding values in his flock. Dr. Dietsche is an avid pheasant and whitetail deer hunter. He also enjoys working in his woodshop and teaching his kids, friends, and family members how to turn finials on his grandfather’s wood lathe when time allows.
Richard W. Harper, PhD
Professor and Extension Urban Forestry Specialist @ the University of Massachusetts AmherstMr. Harper is an ISA Board Certified Master Arborist and Past-President of the New England Chapter of ISA. He currently teaches courses and administers an applied integrated research & extension program in urban & community forestry. Mr. Harper received his Ph.D. in Forest Resources-Arboriculture from UMass and his undergraduate degree in Forest Conservation/Management from Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, Canada.
Jerome Johnson
Professor Emeritus, Engineering and Technology Department University of Wisconsin-Stout Menomonie, WIDr. Johnson served the University for 36 years in various roles including professor in the research and development discipline of the engineering and technology department, before retiring in 2021. During the last 20 years of his career at UW-Stout, he taught laboratory-based courses in design and product development to students in the following degree programs: engineering technology, construction, technology education, packaging, and manufacturing engineering. He also served as chair of the department, directed an outreach center whose purpose was to produce prototypes for inventors outside the university, and initiated the on-campus Fab Lab. Dr. Johnson began his career at the University as an instructor of engineering graphics. Prior to his appointment at UW-Stout he was a technology education instructor at Tomahawk High School in north central Wisconsin. He earned both his bachelor of science degree in industrial education (1981) and his master of science degree in vocational education (1984) from the University of Wisconsin-Stout. His Doctor of Education degree was earned at the University of Minnesota in vocational education (1991), now referred to as career and technical education.
Recent scholarly activity includes:

- Benches from Ash–a community and university partnership.
- Ash Tree Removal and Reuse for the City of Menomonie.
- Implementation of Additive Manufacturing into Engineering and Engineering Technology Curriculum.
- Shou Sugi Ban: methods, color, and characterization.
- Analysis and development of Green Roof Structures.
Dr. Johnson spends much of his retirement at a cabin that he has rebuilt in northwest Wisconsin and a hunting shack in western Minnesota, which is in need of constant repair. He fishes in Wisconsin and hunts pheasants in Minnesota with his yellow Labrador Knute. Dr. Johnson’s two sons and their families, both living in Fargo, ND join him for occasional hunting weekends and trips to the cabin. They have blessed him and his wife Carleen with a total of 7 grandchildren, so far.
Adam McCullough
Urban Forester with the Montpelier Office of The Vermont Urban and Community Forestry Program.The program leads community members, municipalities, businesses, and government in stewarding the long-lasting value of public trees and the places they create. Designed to help municipalities plant, plan, and care for their community trees, the program provides technical, educational, and financial assistance to over 175 Vermont towns, cities, non-profits, private landowners, and outdoor stewards. Mr. McCullough grew up in Montpelier, Vermont and fell in love with trees at a young age, fascinated by climbing them and by their biology. He has extensive experience with hands-on conservation work and especially tree work, and has applied those skills to create meaningful outdoor experiences for Youth at Risk throughout Vermont’s woods. Mr. McCullough focus is on innovative tree installations in densely built urban environments that will maximize benefits for the community members that need them the most.

Senior Technical Arboricultural & Horticultural Consultant with Mark Webber’s Arboricultural & Horticultural Consultancy LLCMr. Webber holds a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture and nineteen different certifications, qualifications, accreditations, and licensures in the fields of arboriculture and horticulture. Most notably, he is a Register Consulting Arborist, Board-Certified Master Arborist, and a Certified Professional Horticulturist with over forty-seven-plus years of relevant professional experience.
Mr. Webber provides investigations, reports, and testimony in matters related to tree condition, maintenance, removal and agricultural as well as horticultural matters. His expertise includes the management of nursery, arboricultural and horticultural, and agricultural operations, dendrochronology, pesticide use, crop, and tree injuries due to biotic and abiotic conditions, appraisals of damaged crops, trees, and plants, tree failures, and tree failures due to biotic and abiotic conditions, and an assortment of agricultural, arboricultural, and horticultural issues. Mr. Webber is an admitted member of approximately thirty-two industry organizations, including the American Society of Consulting Arborists, Chartered Institute of Horticulture, International Dendrology Society, Tree-Ring Society, American Phytopathological Society, and the OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) Small Business Advocacy Review Panel for Tree Care Industry Rules. He has been a court-qualified expert witness in his field in the state courts of Ohio, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, Washington, and California. Mr. Webber has also been qualified to testify in Federal Court proceedings.
Mr. Webber has been working at farms and nurseries since 1975. He remains active in his industry by serving on various committees and boards and as the Founder/Co-owner of an arboricultural and horticultural firm. In this capacity, he often provides a full range of technical assistance regarding various arboricultural, apiculture, agricultural, dendrochronological, and horticultural assignments.
Mr. Webber often provides tree evaluations, tree risk assessments, plant inventories, lawn care, and weed and pest control advice to clients. Additional services include professional opinions regarding drainage improvements, soil health and nutrient levels, root system location and management, tree management during construction, retaining wall installation, consulting, and other related areas. He has worked as a Research Assistant for the BASF Corporation involving fungicides, insecticides, and herbicides trials on a diverse assortment of economically important agricultural and horticultural crops. He also served as an Apiary (Honeybee) Technician for The Ohio State University.

Marty Shaw, RCA BCMA
Author of The Professional Amenity Plant Appraisal HandbookIn the late 1970’s and early 1980’s, Mr. Shaw grew up in the sleepy little Appalachian town of Bristol, Tennessee, a small city that rests on the boundary between the two states of Tennessee and Virginia. Upon graduation from Bristol Tennessee High School, he enlisted in the United States Navy where he served as ships baker aboard the USS Shark (a fast attack submarine) for four years. When his enlistment came to an end, he took a job selling lawn care service to residential owners in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and later, moved to Knoxville, Tennessee where he worked as general manager of a landscape contracting company while attending the University of Tennessee for Ornamental Horticulture and Landscape Design. Eventually, Mr. Shaw took over as president of a wholesale tree care supply business and built the company from $70,000 in sales to over $1.2 million in just seven years. During that time, he married his wife Kristin and they had two children together. With encouragement from Kristin he also developed an interest in arboricultural consulting, and on May 11th, 1999, he became the first American Society of Consulting Arborist (ASCA) member in Middle Tennessee. From 1998 to 2003, he also served on the Tennessee Urban Forestry Council. Mr. Shaw has since consulted with private landowners, insurance companies, attorneys, tree companies, cooperative extension service agents, country clubs, state urban forestry organizations, universities, and colleges. He has worked on some of the most challenging, difficult, and highest profile cases across the United States. Mr. Shaw is a registered consulting arborist, a board-certified master arborist and one of only a handful of arborists worldwide who consult full-time. He is a UAS pilot, a real estate appraiser and he brings a broad range of skills from a variety of scientific and professional disciplines. An autodidact, Mr. Shaw brings a unique perspective and a talent for learning to any project. He has developed authoritative expertise to create a greater understanding in tree related matters.

Mazari is an associate professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at Cal State Los Angeles, specializing in transportation infrastructure and pavement materials. He is the program manager of the Sikand Center for Sustainable and Intelligent Infrastructures (SITI-Center) and founder of the Sustainable Infrastructure Materials Research Lab (SIM-Lab) at Cal State LA. His research interests include sustainable and resilient transportation infrastructure and transportation infrastructure materials. He is a member of technical committees at the Transportation Research Board of the National Academies of Science and Engineering, and he is co-chair of the LTPP subcommittee of the Highway Pavement Committee of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). Arborist at B2 Arboriculture, Tree Protection ServicesFor the last decade, Mr. Beaty served as the Campus Arborist at Dartmouth College caring for hundreds of mature trees of historical significance. His particular area of expertise is the care and culture of American elms trees in urban settings. Over this time, he regularly presented on subjects including mature tree management, tree risk management, and big tree measurement. Mr. Beaty’s popular campus tree tour series features discussion of botany, ecology, history, and the relationship between historic architecture and legacy trees. He oversaw tree protection planning and management over a period of intense construction and expansion of the Dartmouth campus and worked with several architects and construction engineers to create innovative solutions to often difficult conflicts between physical and biological infrastructure concerns.
In 2022, Mr. Beaty returned to full time practice as a professional consulting arborist to institutional, municipal, legal and estate clients. He is a long-term registered consulting arborist and member of the American Society of Consulting Arborists, a board certified master arborist with the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA), and an ISA municipal arborist specialist.

Author of The Professional Amenity Plant Appraisal HandbookIn the late 1970’s and early 1980’s, Mr. Shaw grew up in the sleepy little Appalachian town of Bristol, Tennessee, a small city that rests on the boundary between the two states of Tennessee and Virginia. Upon graduation from Bristol Tennessee High School, he enlisted in the United States Navy where he served as ships baker aboard the USS Shark (a fast attack submarine) for four years. When his enlistment came to an end, he took a job selling lawn care service to residential owners in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and later, moved to Knoxville, Tennessee where he worked as general manager of a landscape contracting company while attending the University of Tennessee for Ornamental Horticulture and Landscape Design. Eventually, Mr. Shaw took over as president of a wholesale tree care supply business and built the company from $70,000 in sales to over $1.2 million in just seven years. During that time, he married his wife Kristin and they had two children together. With encouragement from Kristin he also developed an interest in arboricultural consulting, and on May 11th, 1999, he became the first American Society of Consulting Arborist (ASCA) member in Middle Tennessee. From 1998 to 2003, he also served on the Tennessee Urban Forestry Council. Mr. Shaw has since consulted with private landowners, insurance companies, attorneys, tree companies, cooperative extension service agents, country clubs, state urban forestry organizations, universities, and colleges. He has worked on some of the most challenging, difficult, and highest profile cases across the United States. Mr. Shaw is a registered consulting arborist, a board-certified master arborist and one of only a handful of arborists worldwide who consult full-time. He is a UAS pilot, a real estate appraiser and he brings a broad range of skills from a variety of scientific and professional disciplines. An autodidact, Mr. Shaw brings a unique perspective and a talent for learning to any project. He has developed authoritative expertise to create a greater understanding in tree related matters.
