Kyle Offerdahl, BCMA

Mr. Offerdahl is a Board Certified Master Arborist and has over 20 years’ experience in the landscape industry, practicing arboriculture since 2007. He has worked as contract arborist, GSA & commercial specialist, and consultant/Expert. Mr. Offerdahl currently sits on a review board for the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) A300 Standards. Previously, he acted as Vice President of the Oregon landscape Contractors Association. Mr. Offerdahl has been published in The Arborist Consultant magazine. His strengths are in the diagnosis of disease and insect issues, abiotic stressors, tree risk assessment, plant appraisal, tree protection in development, municipal tree codes. Mr. Offerdahl has an impressive list of design projects, including recent work on QTS Data Center, Vancouver VA Hospital, City of Tualatin Civil Repairs, and Middle Income Housing in the City of Portland.

Course Title: The Tree Course for Design Professionals in the Pacific Northwest

Delivery Method: Live Online

Course Description: This 6.5-hour course provides strategies to design professionals to incorporate and protect trees on their projects in the Pacific Northwest, from the design phase to post-construction. The course begins with a discussion on tree biology and benefits before analyzing specific strategies for the design phase, site work, the construction phase and post-construction.

Learning Objectives:

Learning Objective 1:
Learners will be able to explain the basic principles of tree biology (roots, structure, growth, etc.), identify the benefits trees can offer, and incorporate trees into a project in the design phase.

Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to utilize pre-construction preparations to preserve and promote tree health, including protection fencing, root barriers, root aeration, and canopy pruning.

Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to discuss arborist oversight and monitoring, comply with scheduled inspections, and explore troubleshooting techniques and design changes.

Learning Objective 4:
Learners will be able to adopt post-construction tree care strategies such as irrigation, watering, soil aeration and amendments and pest management, and develop continuing tree care plans.
