Course Title: Stormwater Basins: Design, Construction and Maintenance

Delivery Method: Live Online

Course Description: The primary goal of this course is to provide assistance to design professionals in designing, constructing and maintaining the appropriate stormwater storage system for their needs. The course begins by identifying stormwater regulations and discussing stormwater pollution prevention plans. Then each type of storage system is discussed in detail: detention basins, retention basins, and infiltration basins. Sustainable best practices in stormwater detention/retention are also covered. The course concludes with the maintenance, repair and improvement of existing stormwater basins.

Learning Objectives:

Learning Objective 1:
Learners will be able to identify and review stormwater regulations and be able assist with preparing stormwater pollution prevention plans.

Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to select the appropriate detention or retention basins by considering stormwater routing, sizing, design criteria, water quality, public safety and the necessary inlets, outlets, forebays and spillways.

Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to identify and describe stormwater sustainable best practices, including rain gardens, naturalizing basins, and water reuse.

Learning Objective 4:
Learners will be able to identify the recommended and required maintenance for stormwater basins and review strategies for handling common repairs and improvements.
