Each webinar session earns continuing education credit and can be registered for individually. All attendees must log-on through their own email – attendees may not watch together if they wish to earn continuing education credit. Certificates of completion can be downloaded in PDF form upon passing a short quiz. A link to the quiz will be sent to each qualifying attendee immediately after the webinar. The certificate can be downloaded from the Results page of the quiz upon scoring 80% or higher.

Civil Engineer, City of Greenville, NC
Mr. Norris is a civil engineer for the City of Greenville, North Carolina, specializing in stormwater engineering, and he is the owner of Norris Environmental Engineering, PLLC. He is a professional engineer, a certified floodplain manager, a certified professional in stormwater quality, and a certified professional in low impact development. Prior to working for the City of Greenville, Mr. Norris worked
with the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission and the North Carolina Division of Water Quality. He was also the environmental specialist and floodplain administrator for the City of Wilson. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Fish and Wildlife Management and a master’s degree in Biological and Agricultural Engineering, both from North Carolina State University.

Course Title: Stormwater Basins: Design, Construction and Maintenance

Course Description: The primary goal of this course is to provide assistance to design professionals in designing, constructing and maintaining the appropriate stormwater storage system for their needs. The course begins by identifying stormwater regulations and discussing stormwater pollution prevention plans. Then each type of storage system is discussed in detail: detention basins, retention basins, and infiltration basins. Sustainable best practices in stormwater detention/retention are also covered. The course concludes with the maintenance, repair and improvement of existing stormwater basins.

Learning Objectives:

Learning Objective 1:
Learners will be able to identify and review stormwater regulations and be able assist with preparing stormwater pollution prevention plans.

Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to select the appropriate detention or retention basins by considering stormwater routing, sizing, design criteria, water quality, public safety and the necessary inlets, outlets, forebays and spillways.

Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to identify and describe stormwater sustainable best practices, including rain gardens, naturalizing basins, and water reuse.

Learning Objective 4:
Learners will be able to identify the recommended and required maintenance for stormwater basins and review strategies for handling common repairs and improvements.
