Mr. Gallo is a civil engineer with more than 20 years of experience in the areas of water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure design, rehabilitation, and construction.  He has worked in both consulting and government and is currently a project manager with Washington D.C.’s Clean Rivers Project. He is skilled in the design of wastewater and storm water conveyance systems, combined sewer overflow design, rehabilitation, construction, and contract management. He is a past NASSCO certified CIPP inspector, and is a licensed professional engineer in the state of Virginia.

Course Title: Pump Station Design, Construction and Rehabilitation

Course Description: This course examines the design, construction, components, rehabilitation and commissioning of pump stations. The course begins with a general discussion on types of pump stations, how they are used, proper selection, and related permits and standards. The course then explains hydrology, hydraulics and the fundamentals of fluid flow before inspecting piping, valves, fittings, motors, controls and electrical system. The course concludes with a focus on rehabilitation, testing, and commissioning.

Learning Objectives:

Learning Objective 1:
Learners will be able to identify types of pump stations, explain their uses in the municipal, industrial and commercial sectors, and discuss related standards and permits.

Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to identify types of pumps, including submersible, centrifugal and sump pumps, and select the appropriate type depending on the application.

Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to review power supply options, types of motors, emergency backup power solutions and an electrical power system data sheet.

Learning Objective 4:
Learners will be able to understand the inspection of existing facilities, discuss rehabilitation vs. new construction, and explore the testing and commissioning of new pump stations.
