Course Title: Deep Foundation Design and Construction
Delivery Method: Live Online
Course Description: This course examines the elements of constructing deep foundations for buildings and other structures, including site evaluations, determining the appropriate types of deep foundations, excavation practices and bracing, determining bearing capacity and settlement, and estimating axial capacity and analyzing lateral loads.
Learning Objectives:
Learning Objective 1:
Learners will be able to explain the importance of conducting a building site evaluation prior to undertaking a building project that requires a deep foundation. They will be able to identify what soil tests and subsurface explorations are recommended.
Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to identify and describe the types of deep foundations and determine which one is recommended for particular buildings.
Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to differentiate types of deep foundation excavation soil bracing systems and explain what site and soil conditions dictate which system is used.
Learning Objective 4:
Learners will be able to determine building site and soil bearing capacity and settlement and be able to calculate residual and transient loads.
Learning Objective 5:
Learners will be able to estimate axial capacity in sand, clay and rock soil types, and they will be able to conduct lateral load testing on piles and pile groups.
LUs: 6.5 LU Type: LU|HSWs.
Prerequisites: Experience with foundation design practices and site development
Advance Preparation: None
Program Level: Intermediate
Course Expiration Date: 07/14/2023
