Description
A hydraulic model says the channel will hold. A historical flow record suggests otherwise. A crew shows up to begin restoration work, only to find the conditions have changed with the last big flood event. The geomorphic assessment provided the clues to success all along.
Stream restoration lives at the boundary between the data and the dirt.
And the professionals who get it right are the ones who can move fluently between the two.
If you’ve ever wondered how to turn a geomorphic assessment into buildable plans and specs, or worried whether your restoration design will survive the first storm season, this training is for you.
Join national river and stream restoration expert, Brian Kwiatkowski, as he walks you through the full arc of a restoration project, from assessment to design, to construction decisions…
…PLUS this webinar will give you the hard-won lessons-learned that only come from more than 25 years of experience and thousands of miles of river and stream assessments.
Drawing on experience across design, permitting, and construction, this training will help engineers, landscape architects, surveyors, planners, and environmental professionals design restoration projects that provide a multitude of sustained ecological benefits.
Don’t let a design that works on paper wash out on site.

Course Title: Stream Restoration 101: Tips and Tricks for Design Professionals
Delivery Method: Live Online
Course Description: This 6.5-hour course examines river and stream restoration from watershed assessment through construction, covering watershed hydrology, fluvial geomorphology, channel evolution, and stream hydraulics. This course also analyzes in-stream structures, bank treatments, streambank stabilization, permitting, erosion and sediment control, invasive species management, and hard-won lessons learned from real-world restoration construction.
Learning Objectives:
Learning Objective 1: Learners will be able to explain how watershed hydrology, historical flow conditions, and human impacts drive river degradation and apply that understanding to geomorphic assessment and restoration planning.
Learning Objective 2: Learners will be able to apply fluvial geomorphology principles, including cross section, planform, profile, and time, to evaluate channel evolution, stream hydraulics, and aquatic habitat conditions.
Learning Objective 3: Learners will be able to select appropriate in-stream structures, bank treatments, streambank stabilization techniques, and buffer revegetation strategies based on site-specific geomorphic and hydraulic conditions.
