Certificates of completion can be downloaded in PDF form upon passing a short quiz. A link to the quiz will be sent to each qualifying attendee immediately after the webinar. The certificate can be downloaded from the Results page of the quiz upon scoring 80% or higher.

Continuing Education Credit Information

This webinar is open to the public and is designed to qualify for 3.0 PDHs for professional engineers and 3.0 HSW continuing education hours for licensed architects in all states that allow this learning method. Please refer to specific state rules to determine eligibility.

Mr. Wood has 40 plus years in all aspects of the excavation/trenching industry. He entered the industry due to a trench collapse while installing a sewer laser. After some success working with protective systems in the field, Mr. Wood became involved in marketing and distribution, manufacturing, engineering, and new product development. Throughout the 40 plus years, he has been in the field, a participant in the development of the current OSHA Standard, training of both OSHA compliance officers as well as competent person training in excavation safety and related fields. Mr. Wood is conversant with product and practices in the UK, Western Europe, and the USA.

Course Title: Trenching and Excavation Safety in Construction

Delivery Method: Live Online

Course Description: This three-hour course explores the principles and practices of trenching and excavation safety in construction, covering topics such as trench applications and regulations, soil classification, impacts of water, identification of hazards, construction techniques, safety requirements, and protection equipment and procedures.

Learning Objectives:

Learning Objective 1:
Learners will be able to explain the regulatory requirements and applications of trenching, including exemptions for residential construction projects and compliance with safety standards.

Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to identify soil classifications and understand the impacts of water, and explain the implications for trench stability and safety during excavation operations.

Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to analyze trench design, including components and shape, construction, use and safety equipment that adhere to the applicable safety requirements.

Learning Objective 4:
Learners will be able to identify additional hazards related to excavation and trenching and utilize the proper safety procedures to address these hazards.
