Each webinar session earns continuing education credit and can be registered for individually. All attendees must log-on through their own email – attendees may not watch together if they wish to earn continuing education credit. HalfMoon Education Inc. must be able to prove attendance if either the attendee or HalfMoon Education Inc. is audited.

Certificates of completion can be downloaded in PDF form upon passing a short quiz. A link to the quiz will be sent to each qualifying attendee immediately after the webinar. The certificate can be downloaded from the Results page of the quiz upon scoring 80% or higher.

Webinars are presented via GoToWebinar, an easy-to-use application that can be run on most systems and tablets. This webinar is open to the public and is designed to qualify for 7.0 PDHs for professional engineers and 7.0 HSW continuing education hours for licensed architects in all states.

Principal with Klepper, Hahn & Hyatt in Syracuse

James D’Aloisio is a principal with Klepper, Hahn & Hyatt, a structural engineering, landscape architecture, and building envelope services firm in East Syracuse, New York. A graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Mr. D’Aloisio is a registered Professional Engineer in New York and Massachusetts. He is a member and past president (1997-1998) of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Syracuse Section, and a member of the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC), the American Concrete Institute (ACI), the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE), and the Structural Engineers Association of New York State (SEAoNY). Mr. D’Aloisio is a member of ASCE/SEI’s Frost-Protected Shallow Foundations Committee, the Structural Condition Assessment of Existing Buildings Committee, and the Sustainability Committee, where he currently serves as co-chair of the Thermal Bridging Working Group. Mr. D’Aloisio received the Order of the Engineer at Syracuse University in 1997. His 30-plus years’ experience as a consulting structural engineer has primarily involved the design of new building structures, additions, and modifications, and analyses, assessments, and investigations of structures and facades. Mr. D’Aloisio has performed structural condition reviews of over 15 million square feet of buildings and has performed over 150 structural forensic investigations. He has presented over 400 times.

Course Title: Structural Forensic Engineering of Buildings

Course Description: This course examines the strategies used to prevent structural failures in the design and construction of buildings, explains the causes of structural failure and the forensic engineering process, reviews investigations of various structures, and provides guidance on the use of forensic engineering information and how to navigate ethical issues in structural engineering.

Learning Objective 1:
Learners will be able to identify the causes of structural failures, including design errors, defective construction, material deficiencies, excessive loading, improper usage or modification, deterioration and degradation, or a combination of causes.

Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to discuss the forensic engineering process, including the conducting of an investigation and research, test protocols and measurements, determination of causation and responsibility, and learning from failure.

Learners will be able to review the investigations of various types of structures, including steel, wood and concrete.
