Course Title: Stormwater Basins: Design, Construction and Maintenance

Delivery Method: Live Online

Course Description: This course is intended to assist design professionals in understanding, selecting, and maintaining stormwater storage systems. The course begins by identifying stormwater management system objectives and design considerations and reviewing stormwater conveyance and hydrology before closely examining different types of storage systems, including detention basins, retention basins, and underground systems. The course then discusses sustainable best practices and the maintenance, repair and improvement of existing stormwater basins.

Learning Objectives:

Learning Objective 1:
Learners will be able to identify the federal regulations addressing stormwater quality and management and the contents of a stormwater pollution prevention plan (SWPPP).

Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to discuss stormwater conveyance and hydrology and consider tributary areas, the watershed, terrain, soil, community, environmental factors and stormwater quality when engaging in stormwater modeling and planning.

Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to closely analyze different types of stormwater storage systems and the routing, sizing, inlets, outlets, forebays, spillways, and the design criteria of these systems.

Learning Objective 4:
Learners will be able to adopt sustainable best practices in stormwater detention/retention (such as naturalization, water reuse, and retrofitting) and discuss the recommended and required maintenance for stormwater basins, and the techniques for handling common repairs and improvements.
