Course Title: Roadway Drainage Design

Delivery Method: Live Online

Course Description: This two-day, 12-hour course focuses on drainage design for roadways. The course includes site assessment techniques, flow rate calculations, and specific design strategies for a wide range of drainage infrastructure, including curbs, gutters, cross gutters, drainage swales, V-ditches, culverts, catch basins and junctions. The course also explores subsurface drainage, Energy Grade Line and Hydraulic Grade Line calculations, and water quality considerations, requirements, testing, and compliance.

Learning Objectives:

Learning Objective 1:
Learners will be able to identify road drainage objectives and requirements, explain road drainage principles, and explore site assessment techniques related to roadway flooding.

Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to calculate the flow rate Q and understand the parameters affecting flow rate.

Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to examine curb and gutter designs, specifically curb inlets on grade, curb inlets on sag, and the directing of gutter flow into green infrastructure.

Learning Objective 4:
Learners will be able to explain the purpose and importance of drainage swales, as well as explore designs.
