Wendy Talarico LEED AP
Ms. Talarico is an ICC-certified energy/green code plan reviewer and consults with architects and engineers throughout the Northeast to provide continuing education on a range of subjects from codes to building science. She is an instructor for Urban Green/New York State Energy Research and Development Authority’s “Conquering the Code”, an 8-hour energy code class in New York State. Ms. Talarico was a member of the engineering outreach team for the Brick Industry Association, and she is an award-winning journalist with more than 25 years of experience as a writer and editor for such publications as Architectural Record and This Old House. Her areas of expertise include building energy, sustainability issues, and codes, including the IECC, ASHRAE 90.1, IEBC, and the IgCC.

Course Description: This course examines the residential provisions of the New York State Energy Conservation Code (NYSECC), including Code definitions, climate zones, code compliance alternatives, residential energy efficiency, HVAC systems, electrical power and lighting systems, and requirements for building additions, building alterations, repairs and change of occupancy.

Learning Objective 1:
Learners will be able to discuss the development of the 2018 International Energy Efficiency Code 2018 adoption in New York (New York State Energy Conservation Code) and the scope and general requirements of Stretch Code in New York.
Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to comply with NYSECC residential provisions for HVAC systems, including those for control systems, duct work insulation, service hot water, and mechanical ventilation.
Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to comply with NYSECC residential provisions for electrical power systems and lighting systems.
Learning Objective 4:
Learners will be able to comply with NYSECC residential provisions for building additions, alterations, building repairs and maintenance, and changes of occupancy.
