This webinar offers 6.5 PDHs to professional engineers and 6.5 HSW continuing education hours to architects licensed in all states.

HalfMoon Education is an approved continuing education sponsor for engineers in Florida (Provider No. 0004647), Indiana (License No. CE21700059), Maryland, New Jersey (Approval No. 24GP00000700), North Carolina (S-0130), and North Dakota. HalfMoon Education is deemed an approved continuing education sponsor for New York engineers and architects via its registration with the American Institute of Architects Continuing Education System (Regulations of the Commissioner §68.14(i)(2) and §69.6(i)(2)). Other states do not preapprove continuing education providers or courses.

The American Institute of Architects Continuing Education System has approved this course for 6.5 LU|HSW (Sponsor No. J885). Only full participation is reportable to the AIA/CES.

This course offers a non-credit continuing education opportunity to contractors.

Completion certificates will be awarded to participants who complete this event, respond to prompts and earn a passing score (80%) on the quiz that follows the presentation (multiple attempts allowed).

Speakers

Feng Mu

Senior Flatwork Engineer at PNA
Dr. Mu is a licensed professional engineer in the state of Texas, and he has over 10 years of experience in concrete paving, engineering and research. Dr. Mu has a master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering and a doctorate degree in Pavement Engineering. He has authored over 30 peer-reviewed technical papers, some of which have been highly recognized or awarded in the pavement community. He currently serves on the Pavement Maintenance Committee of the Transportation Research Board (TRB) of the National Academies. He is also the co-chair of the Pavement Design Committee of the American Concrete Pavement Association (ACPA). Dr. Mu has developed optimized paving solutions and life cycle analysis/assessment for many roadway, commercial and industrial projects.

Blake Wright

Project Manager, Raba Kistner, Inc.
Mr. Wright is responsible for managing geotechnical engineering projects throughout San Antonio and south/central Texas. He first worked for Raba Kistner, Inc., from 2007 to 2014 and recently re-joined the firm in March of 2018. Mr. Wright has extensive experience with all geotechnical engineering applications with a focus on rigid and flexible pavement design, soil stabilization, and pavement construction. Prior to re-joining Raba Kistner, Inc., he was a paving engineer at CEMEX where he was responsible for promoting the use of cement-based paving options which included unreinforced concrete pavements, roller-compacted concrete, cement-stabilized soil and cement-treated base, and full-depth asphalt reclamation. On a daily basis he provided pavement designs, cost analyses, and other technical recommendations to public agencies, developers, consultants, and contractors. Mr. Wright has a bachelor of arts degree in Psychology from Texas A&M University and both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Civil Engineering from the University of Texas at San Antonio.

It covers design methods for new flexible pavement and new rigid pavement and maintenance methods for asphalt and concrete pavements. Sustainability aspects of pavements along with life-cycle assessments.

Learning Objectives:

Learning Objective 1:
Learners will be able to identify pavement design and construction criteria, including material selection, sub-grade soil, use of base, soil improvement, and drainage.

Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to differentiate flexible pavement and rigid pavement and be able to determine which type of pavement is suitable for different intended uses.

Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to explain asphalt and concrete preservation, maintenance, and rehabilitation strategies for asphalt and for concrete.

Learning Objective 4:
Learners will be able to consider and analyze the sustainability aspects and goals of pavement and identify how sustainability is measured in this context.
