Certificates of completion can be downloaded in PDF form upon passing a short quiz. A link to the quiz will be sent to each qualifying attendee immediately after the webinar. The certificate can be downloaded from the Results page of the quiz upon scoring 80% or higher.

Daryl Norris

Civil Engineer, Floodplain Manager with Norris Environmental Engineering, PLLC

Mr. Norris is a civil engineer for the City of Greenville, North Carolina, specializing in stormwater engineering, and he is the owner of Norris Environmental Engineering, PLLC. Mr. Norris is a professional engineer, a certified floodplain manager, a certified professional in stormwater quality, and a certified professional in low impact development. Prior to working for the City of Greenville, he worked with the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission and the North Carolina Division of Water Quality. Mr. Norris was also the environmental specialist and floodplain administrator for the City of Wilson. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Fish and Wildlife Management and a master’s degree in Biological and Agricultural Engineering, both from North Carolina State University.

Course Title: North Carolina Stormwater Management 2024

Delivery Method: Live Online

Course Description: This seven-hour course focuses on the science, requirements, planning, infrastructure, and maintenance of stormwater management systems in North Carolina. The course will identify applicable federal and state permit requirements and regulations, discuss the science of stormwater, assess stormwater best management practices and infrastructure, explain the development of stormwater pollution prevention plans, and discuss required maintenance of systems.

Learning Objectives:

Learning Objective 1:
Learners will be able to locate and reference stormwater permit requirements and regulations of the Federal Clean Water Act, the National Pollution Discharge Elimination System, and the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality.

Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to review soil science, hydrology and drainage concepts, identify consequences of storm events and discuss runoff reduction, routing, storage, infiltration and percolation.

Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to choose stormwater best management practices, including green infrastructure practices and low impact development techniques such as detention/retention ponds, vegetated swales, rain gardens, green roofs, porous pavement and more.

Learning Objective 4:
Learners will be able to describe the contents of stormwater pollution prevention plans, including best management practices and plans for required inspection, maintenance and record keeping.
