All attendees must log-on through their own email – attendees may not watch together if they wish to earn continuing education credit. HalfMoon Education Inc. must be able to prove attendance if either the attendee or HalfMoon Education Inc. is audited.

Certificates of completion can be downloaded in PDF form upon passing a short quiz. A link to the quiz will be sent to each qualifying attendee immediately after the webinar. The certificate can be downloaded from the Results page of the quiz upon scoring 80% or higher.

Continuing Education Credit Information

This webinar is open to the public and is designed to qualify for 6.5 PDHs for professional engineers and 6.5 HSW continuing education hours for licensed architects in all states that allow this learning method. Please refer to specific state rules to determine eligibility.

Speakers

Bryan Hoskins, P.E. Ph.D

Associate Professor of Fire Protection & Safety at Oklahoma State University

Dr. Bryan Hoskins earned his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Fire Protection Engineering from the University of Maryland. He also received his Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Maryland in 2011 with an emphasis on building egress. Dr. Hoskins spent one year working for Arup on projects primarily dealing with life safety design and people movement. He then spent two years working for the National Institute of Standards and Technology on projects dealing with building evacuations and emergency messaging. He is a registered fire protection engineer in the state of Oklahoma. Professor Hoskins is the chair of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE) working group that developed a research roadmap for fire protection and is a member of the Human Behavior in Fire Task group for SFPE. He serves on multiple code and standards committees. He has authored more than 20 articles related to building evacuations and human behavior in fire.

Course Title: NFPA 99: Health Care Facilities Code

Course Description:  This 6.5-hour course closely analyzes select chapters of NFPA 99, Health Care Facilities Code. Topics of focus include fire protection devices, systems and strategies as well as code provisions related to gas and vacuum equipment, electrical systems, emergency and security management, plumbing and HVAC systems, and fire protection.

Learning Objectives:

Learning Objective 1:
Learners will be able to locate and comply with NFPA 99 code requirements impacting piped gas and vacuum systems, liquid withdrawal piping and gas equipment.

Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to reference and explain NFPA 99 code requirements related to essential electrical systems, microgrids and emergency power apparatuses.

Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to understand the proper utilization of appropriate fire protection devices and systems, including fire detection, alarms, sprinklers and extinguishers.

Learning Objective 4:
Learners will be able to identify special fire hazards in health care facilities and discuss the specific challenges in protecting laboratories and utilities.
