All attendees must log-on through their own email – attendees may not watch together if they wish to earn continuing education credit. HalfMoon Education Inc. must be able to prove attendance if either the attendee or HalfMoon Education Inc. is audited.

Certificates of completion can be downloaded in PDF form upon passing a short quiz. A link to the quiz will be sent to each qualifying attendee immediately after the webinar. The certificate can be downloaded from the Results page of the quiz upon scoring 80% or higher.

Restoration Consultant at Walker Consultants – Chicago Office

Ms. Navaid is a restoration consultant in the Chicago office of Walker Consultants. With an architectural background, she provides specialized assistance on building envelope projects, as well as parking facility restoration projects. As a restoration consultant and licensed architect at Walker, her responsibilities include managing facade repair and roofing replacement projects across all market segments, performing condition assessments and site investigations, and delivering projects from conception to the development of construction documents and on through construction. Ms. Navaid has nearly 15 years of experience in building envelope consulting and restoration.

Kyle Pawlak P.E.

Restoration Consultant at Walker Consultants – Indiana Office

Mr. Pawlak is a restoration consultant in the Indianapolis office of Walker Consultants. He is responsible for the assessment and restoration of existing structures across several markets including private, university, airport, and healthcare throughout Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, and Tennessee. Mr. Pawlak has experience in building envelope consulting for new construction during design and construction as well as the investigation and restoration of existing buildings including building facades, storefronts, and roofing systems.

Sonia Surlej R.A. NCARB

Building Envelope Consultant at Walker Consultants – Chicago Office

Ms. Surlej, R.A., NCARB, is a building envelope consultant in the Chicago office of Walker Consultants. She has been in the building envelope and restoration industry for 13 years. In that time, she has completed a wide variety of building envelope consulting projects most notably the terra cotta restoration of The Bridgeview Bank Uptown in Chicago, Illinois, and building envelope consulting services for new construction of The Corners in Brookfield, Wisconsin. Ms. Surlej can take her foundation in historic preservation and forensic building failure and apply that knowledge to new construction. In recent years, she has teamed up with general contractors to review construction documents and identify and address problems as well as improve the quality of the overall building envelope.

Course Title: Moisture Control in Buildings: Designing, Constructing and Remodeling for Wet Weather

Course Description: This 6.5 hour live lecture presentation examines the sources and consequences of moisture in buildings, moisture control guidance found in codes, and designing moisture-resistant foundations, wall systems, and roofing systems.

Learning Objectives:

Learning Objective 1:
Learners will be able to identify sources of moisture in and around buildings and describe its consequences, including mold, energy losses, damage to building systems and materials, and reduced occupant health, safety and welfare.

Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to seek moisture control guidance from the International Building Code, International Residential Code, and the US EPA Moisture Control Guidance publication.

Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to apply design strategies for moisture-resistant foundations, wall systems, and roofing systems.

Learning Objective 4:
Learners will be able to discuss the role of plumbing, HVAC, and ventilation systems of controlling moisture in buildings.
