All attendees must log-on through their own email – attendees may not watch together if they wish to earn continuing education credit. HalfMoon Education Inc. must be able to prove attendance if either the attendee or HalfMoon Education Inc. is audited.

This webinar is open to the public and is designed to qualify for 7.5 PDHs for professional engineers and 7.5 HSW continuing education hours for licensed architects in Maryland. HalfMoon Education is an approved continuing education sponsor for engineers in Maryland.

The American Institute of Architects Continuing Education System has approved this course for 7.5 HSW LUs (Sponsor No. J885). Only full participation is reportable to the AIA/CES.

The International Code Council has approved this event for .75 CEUs in the specialty area of Building (Preferred Provider No. 1232).

Attendance will be monitored, and attendance certificates will be available after the webinar for those who attend the entire course and score a minimum 80% on the quiz that follows the course (multiple attempts allowed).

William "Rick" Hinson, C.B.O. P.E. in VA. MD. and MD

Mr. Hinson has 43 years of experience in engineering. He has provided a wide range of construction and facility-related services to clients including systems testing, design, failure analysis, code review and project management. Mr. Hinson has served as an engineer, plans examiner, building official and as a principal in an engineering firm. He is experienced in multi-disciplined engineering, power generation, construction, forensics and building code enforcement. Mr. Hinson’s experience also includes building teams of professionals, performing cost and benefit evaluations, developing and streamlining policies and procedures to improve unit skills, and coordinating process across corporate structures. Additionally, he has provided code compliance plans review, construction administration, special inspection services, lectures, instruction, and management.

Course Title: Maryland Building Rehabilitation Code

Delivery Method: Live Online

Course Description: This 7.5-hour course provides a comprehensive analysis of the Maryland Building Rehabilitation Code. The course will focus on the current Maryland code which is based on the 2021 IEBC. The course begins with a review of the purpose, scope, definitions, provisions and amendments of the code before diving into the basics of the code; repairs, prescriptive provisions and alterations level 1-2. Then, the course focuses on the fundamentals of the code (alteration levels 2-3, change of occupancy) and concludes with an analysis of the rest of the code, primarily regarding additions, historic and moved buildings.

Learning Objectives:

Learning Objective 1:
Learners will be able to examine the general provisions, compliance provisions and Maryland amendments to the 2021 International Existing Building Code and understand its purpose and scope.

Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to analyze and reference prescriptive provisions and repair techniques, as well as differentiate between alterations level 1 and level 2.

Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to identify and satisfy the requirements of level 2 alterations and level 3 alterations, as well as understand change of occupancy requirements.

Learning Objective 4:
Learners will be able to reference and comply with code requirements for building additions, historic buildings, and moved buildings, and explore performance compliance.
