Mr. Fritts is vice-president of Residential Sewage Treatment Company, Inc., in Grandview, Missouri where they design, sell and service alternative onsite wastewater systems. He is past president of the Missouri Smallflows Organization (MSO), the Kansas Small Flows Association (KSFA) and the National Onsite Wastewater Recycling Association (NOWRA). He is an approved instructor for NOWRA, the Consortium of Institutes for Decentralized Wastewater Treatment, and for several states across the country. Mr. Fritts is the 2016 recipient of the NOWRA “Dick Otis Industry Achievement Award” and the 2015 Kansas Small Flows Association “Raymond Peat Industry Achievement Award.”

Course Description: This course examines onsite wastewater treatment technologies, the regulation, permitting and sustainability of onsite treatment systems, site evaluations, determining treatment goals, conventional and alternative system design, onsite wastewater system maintenance planning.

Learning Objectives:

Learning Objective 1:
Learners will be able to explain the technology and operation of conventional wastewater treatment systems, the problems they pose, and recent scientific and technical advances that improve performance of conventional systems.

Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to reference and understand federal, state and local regulation of systems, and they will be able to system regulations with surface and groundwater regulations. Learners will be able to abide by permitting requirements and procedures.

Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to describe the processes involved in evaluating sites for wastewater treatment systems, including the receiving environment and soil type, nitrogen and pathogen removal, and treatment/removal of phosphorus and other pollutants.

Learning Objective 4:
Learners will be able to describe conventional treatment system selection and design, and they will be able to identify and describe alternative and sustainable treatment technology options.
