How to Think Like a Bee: Creating Pollinator Habitat
Before undertaking any self-study effort, you should review the rules of your licensing/certifying entity.
You must take and pass a quiz in order to receive credit. You can take the quiz as many times as needed and there is no time limit on the quiz. Once the quiz is completed, you will be asked to download your certificate.
Videos that qualify for AIA, LACES, ASLA, or CLARB credit will require an extra week for processing.

The video will have occasional question prompts that will not allow the video to progress unless they are answered. You will not be able to skip forward while watching the video.

Program Director, Pollinator Education with the Department of Entomology/Extension at The Ohio State University Ohio State Department of Entomology
Ms. Ellsworth directs the honey bee and native pollinator education program through The Ohio State University Department of Entomology on the Wooster campus. In this outreach position, she supports and teaches beekeepers, farmers, gardeners and others across the state through a variety of workshops, webinars, written materials and electronic resources. Ms. Ellsworth has bachelor of science and master of science degrees from The Ohio State University. Her areas of emphasis are in bee health, integrated pest management, pollinator identification, conservation and habitat enhancement, plant and insect phenology, adult education and citizen science.

Course Description: This course examines the importance of native bees, the distinctions between native and non-native bee species, bee biology and life cycle, creating and maintaining bee habitat, vegetation for bees, and planting and landscape management without pesticides.

Learners will be able to explain the environmental and human importance of native bees and how they differ from non-native bees.

Learners will be able to discuss how bees live their lives and how that affects the successful creation of habitat for them.

Learners will be able to create and manage successful pollinator habitat by selecting and planting vegetation that is beneficial for bees, flies, and butterflies.

Learners will be able to apply successful planting and landscape management strategies that can transform “messy” or, more accurately, natural landscapes into attractive ones, while avoiding the use of pesticides.
