Course Description: This six-hour course explores the process of electrifying residential and small commercial buildings, focusing on various aspects such as electrical panel sizing based on heating, cooling and energy usage, HVAC and shell retrofits, electrified appliances, and HVAC sizing for occupant comfort.
Learning Objectives:
Learning Objective 1:
Learners will be able to discuss the sizing of electrical panels to meet the needs of the building and its occupants, the capabilities of 100 amp panels, and design considerations for EV chargers.
Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to identify and utilize electrified appliances such as stoves, dryers, water heaters and fireplaces.
Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to explore HVAC and shell retrofits, focusing on building shell essentials, air sealing techniques, various HVAC types, and critical factors like dehumidification and cold temperature performance.
Learning Objective 4:
Learners will be able to explain the six functions of HVAC (load matching, filtration, dehumidification, fresh air, mixing and humidification) and discuss the equipment that can be used to satisfy those six functions.
Learning Objective 5:
Learners will be able to determine heating and cooling energy usage of a building and discuss how to convert that to an accurately sized HVAC system.
