This webinar is open to the public and is designed to qualify for 6.0 PDHs for professional engineers and 6.0 HSW continuing education hours for licensed architects in Florida.

Michael L. Savage, Sr., MCP, CBO, CFPS, CEI-M

Director of Building Safety for Marion County, Florida

Mr. Savage has been in the inspection field for more than 25 years. He has been a plans examiner, a combination inspector, a chief inspector and chief building official. Mr. Savage has completed plan reviews and inspections on all types of structures from single-family dwellings, decks and sheds to micro-breweries and manufacturing/industrial facilities. He currently serves as the director of building safety/building official for Marion County, Florida. Mr. Savage holds 42 International Code Council certifications, including master code professional and certified building official. In addition, he is a NFPA-certified fire protection specialist (CFPS) and IAEI certified electrical inspector – master. He is also licensed as a building, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical inspector in the State of Maryland, and he is a qualified electrical inspector in the State of Delaware. Mr. Savage is also licensed as a building, electrical, plumbing and mechanical inspector in the State of New Mexico. He is actively involved in the code making processes and holds committee memberships on such bodies as NFPA, IAEI and UL, and he is a member of the International Code Council (ICC) Board of Directors. Mr. Savage’s past positions include the following: president of the Central New Mexico Chapter of Building Officials, president of the IAEI NM Chapter, ICC Region XI Development Committee and past president and Executive Council member of Region XI. Mr. Savage was appointed to the ICC-Evaluation Services Board of Managers in 2015, the ICC Compliance Code Action Committee (CCAC) and the ICC Code Correlation Committee (CCC). He has taught, and implemented, special inspections programs throughout the country resulting in safer, code-compliant buildings.

Course Description:  This six-hour course focuses on Florida’s threshold inspection law, special structural inspection requirements, and compliance strategies for design professionals. The course begins by identifying the specific inspection requirements in the law and then explains the inspection process and compliance strategies. The course will conclude with case study analyses.

Learners will be able to describe the key elements of Florida’s threshold inspection law, including the types of buildings subject to the law and the specific exclusions.

Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to explore the relationship between the threshold inspection process and the permitting process, identify the requirements for threshold inspectors, and explore effective structural inspection plans.

Learners will be able to identify the compliance strategies for special shoring requirements, outlining the necessary steps to ensure adherence to structural inspection regulations.
