Each webinar session earns continuing education credit and can be registered for individually. All attendees must log-on through their own email – attendees may not watch together if they wish to earn continuing education credit. HalfMoon Education Inc. must be able to prove attendance if either the attendee or HalfMoon Education Inc. is audited.

Certificates of completion will be provided for each webinar attended and will be sent via email in PDF form about five business days after the conclusion of the series.

Webinars are presented via GoToWebinar, an easy-to-use application that can be run on most systems and tablets. Instructions and login information will be provided in an email sent close to the date of the webinar. It is highly recommended that you download, install and test the application before the webinar begins by clicking on the link in the email.

Continuing Education Credit Information

Commercial Site Pavement Design, Installation and Maintenance
This webinar offers 6.5 PDHs to professional engineers and 6.5 HSW continuing education hours to architects in all states. It offers 6.5 HSW continuing education hours to landscape architects licensed in most states. HalfMoon Education is not seeking landscape architect approval in Florida, New Jersey, or North Carolina.

HalfMoon Education is an approved continuing education sponsor for engineers in Florida (Provider No. 0004647), Indiana (License No. CE21700059), Maryland, New Jersey (Approval No. 24GP00000700), and North Carolina (S-0130). HalfMoon Education is deemed an approved continuing education sponsor for New York engineers, architects, and landscape architects via its registration with the American Institute of Architects Continuing Education System (Regulations of the Commissioner §68.14(i)(2), §69.6(i)(2), and §79-1.5(i)(2)). Courses approved by the AIA/CES qualify for Florida architects. Other states do not preapprove continuing education providers or courses.

This course has been approved by the American Institute of Architects Continuing Education System for 6.5 LU|HSW (Sponsor No. J885) and the Landscape Architecture Continuing Education System for 6.5 HSW PDHs. Only full participation is reportable to the AIA/CES and LA CES.

The International Code Council has approved this event for .65 CEUs in the specialty area of Sitework (Preferred Provider No. 1232).

Completion certificates will be awarded to participants who complete this event online, respond to all prompts, and earn a passing score (80%) on the quiz that follows the presentation (multiple attempts allowed).

Speakers

Tyler Dawson Ph.D. P.E.

Principal Engineer with NTH Consultants, Ltd. in East Lansing, Michigan

Dr. Dawson is in his 10th year as a pavement, geotechnical, and subsurface utility engineer with NTH Consultants, Ltd. (NTH). He has a wide background in pavement research, management, and design. He has completed research projects for the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) involving pavement design, material characterization, maintenance, and management. He has participated in and led numerous projects which have included pavement surface and structural evaluations, geotechnical explorations, pavement design, and both short- and long-term pavement management plans. He has also provided expert services for pavement evaluations and litigation involving pavements. Dr. Dawson has also served as a part time instructor for Michigan State University Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering, where he has taught senior and graduate level courses in pavement design and asset management. Dr. Dawson earned his B.S. degree, M.S. degree and Ph.D. degree from Michigan State University.

Tyler Speakmon Ph.D.

Senior paving engineer at CEMEX

Tyler Speakmon, Ph.D. is a senior paving engineer at CEMEX. Mr. Speakmon is currently an engineer-in-training, and he has over 10 years of experience with concrete paving, engineering, design, and research. He has a master’s degree in Civil-Structural Engineering and a doctorate degree in Civil-Materials Engineering from Texas A&M University. Mr. Speakmon has worked with mix design, structural design, life cycle analyses and many other aspects of concrete paving. He serves on the Pavement Design Committee for the American Concrete Pavement Association (ACPA)

Course Description: This course examines the goals of pavement design, including smoothness, stability, and longevity. It explores the commercial design specific elements for parking lots, driveways, shared-use areas, sidewalks, paths and walkways. It examines the difference between the design and installation of flexible pavement and rigid pavement, and it covers the maintenance and rehabilitation processes of pavement.

Learning Objectives:

Learning Objective 1:
Learners will be able to identify the principle goals of pavement design, including smooth and stabile surfaces with a long service life.

Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to identify the application of flexible pavements, and they will be able to discuss necessary soil support and subsurface preparation, material content and mixture, appropriate thickness requirement requirement. They will also be describe how to prepare and overlay existing pavement.

Learners will be able to identify the application of rigid pavements, and they will be able to discuss necessary soil support and subsurface preparation, material content and mixture, appropriate thickness requirement. They will also be describe how to prepare and overlay existing pavement.
