Webinar Instructions

Each webinar session earns continuing education credit and can be registered for individually. All attendees must log-on through their own email – attendees may not watch together if they wish to earn continuing education credit. HalfMoon Education Inc. must be able to prove attendance if either the attendee or HalfMoon Education Inc. is audited.

Certificates of completion will be provided for each webinar attended and will be sent via email in PDF form about five business days after the conclusion of the series.

Webinars are presented via GoToWebinar, an easy-to-use application that can be run on most systems and tablets. This webinar is open to the public and offer 7.0 PDHs to professional
engineers and 7.0 continuing education hours to architects. Advanced Healthy
HVAC: Balancing First Cost, Occupant Comfort, and Safety offers HSW credit to
architects in all states.

event, respond to prompts, and earn a passing score (80%) on the quiz that
follows the presentation (multiple attempts allowed).

Blair Richardson P.E. CEM LEED

Mr. Richardson has over 12 years of experience in building design and construction. His focus has been bringing energy efficiency, sustainability, and resiliency together in every project. Reducing energy use through strategic and targeted energy conservation measures Mr. Richardson has been able to show clients how sustainability can improve their bottom line; utilizing tax credits, rebates, and incentives to reduce the cost of capital projects. He has a strong background in design-build and the integrated design process. Throughout his career he has worked with architects, engineers, contractors, commissioning agents, and owners to facilitate successful projects. Mr. Richardson earned his BS degree from the University of Maine in Mechanical Engineering Technology. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in five states, a Certified Energy Manager, and LEED accredited professional (in addition to other certifications). He serves on the board of directors for the Connecticut Chapter of ASHRAE, as well as heading several committees; is an active member of the National Society of Professional Engineers; is a past director for a regional non-profit; is a corresponding executive committee member for the Housatonic Boy Scout Council; and is an avid outdoorsman.

Course Description: This course explores the nature and development of state and local HVAC codes, ASHRAE standards and guidelines, and LEED and other green rating systems, and sustainability metrices, indoor environmental quality, protection from COVID-19, other infection aerosols, allergens and pollutants, HVAC energy efficiency, and HVAC building system controls.

Learning Objectives:

Learning Objective 1:
Learners will be able to explain how to establish and maintain thermal barriers in structures, and they will be able to compare passive ventilation to mechanical ventilation, and they will be able to compare air filtration and air purification.

Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to describe airflow basics and how to capture airborne particulates, and they will be able to discuss strategies for preparing building to better protect occupants from future pandemics that are spread through airborne means.

Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to discuss the metrics used to ascertain a building’s HVAC sustainability measurement and claims.

Learning Objective 4:
Learners will be able to explain the role of HVAC building system controls maintain comfort and health along with sustainability.
