All attendees must log-on through their own email – attendees may not watch together if they wish to earn continuing education credit. HalfMoon Education Inc. must be able to prove attendance if either the attendee or HalfMoon Education Inc. is audited.

Certificates of completion can be downloaded in PDF form upon passing a short quiz. A link to the quiz will be sent to each qualifying attendee immediately after the webinar. The certificate can be downloaded from the Results page of the quiz upon scoring 80% or higher.

This webinar is open to the public and is designed to qualify for 7.0 PDHs for professional engineers and 7.0 HSW continuing education hours for licensed architects in Florida.

Michael L. Savage, Sr., MCP, CBO, CFPS, CEI-M

Director of Building Safety for Marion County, Florida

Mr. Savage has been in the inspection field for more than 25 years. He has been a plans examiner, a combination inspector, a chief inspector and chief building official. Mr. Savage has completed plan reviews and inspections on all types of structures from single-family dwellings, decks and sheds to micro-breweries and manufacturing/industrial facilities. He currently serves as the director of building safety/building official for Marion County, Florida. Mr. Savage holds 42 International Code Council certifications, including master code professional and certified building official. In addition, he is a NFPA-certified fire protection specialist (CFPS) and IAEI certified electrical inspector – master. He is also licensed as a building, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical inspector in the State of Maryland, and he is a qualified electrical inspector in the State of Delaware. Mr. Savage is also licensed as a building, electrical, plumbing and mechanical inspector in the State of New Mexico. He is actively involved in the code making processes and holds committee memberships on such bodies as NFPA, IAEI and UL, and he is a member of the International Code Council (ICC) Board of Directors. Mr. Savage’s past positions include the following: president of the Central New Mexico Chapter of Building Officials, president of the IAEI NM Chapter, ICC Region XI Development Committee and past president and Executive Council member of Region XI. Mr. Savage was appointed to the ICC-Evaluation Services Board of Managers in 2015, the ICC Compliance Code Action Committee (CCAC) and the ICC Code Correlation Committee (CCC). He has taught, and implemented, special inspections programs throughout the country resulting in safer, code-compliant buildings.

Course Title: 8th Edition (2023) Florida Building Code

Delivery Method: Live Online

Course Description: This seven-hour course begins with a discussion on the development, terminology, enforcement and changes of the 2021 International Building Code as adopted by Florida in the 8th edition, before closely analyzing chapters 3-12, 14-16, and 27-29. The course will cover code-compliant fire protection, egress, accessibility, structural design, roofs, HVAC, MEP systems, and more.

Learning Objectives:

Learning Objective 1:
Learners will be able to discuss the development of the 2021 International Building Code, explain the code adoption and amendment processes in Florida, and explore the 2021 changes.

Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to analyze chapters 6-9 of the Code and utilize code-compliant life safety systems and fire and smoke protection features.

Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to examine chapters 10-11 of the Code to incorporate accessible facilities, routes, entrances and exits in their designs.

Learning Objective 4:
Learners will be able to adopt code-compliant construction techniques and use of specific materials, including concrete, masonry, wood, aluminum, steel and glass.

Learning Objective 5:
Learners will be able to explore chapters 27-29 of the Code and discuss code-compliant electrical, mechanical and plumbing system design.
