All attendees must log-on through their own email – attendees may not watch together if they wish to earn continuing education credit. HalfMoon Education Inc. must be able to prove attendance if either the attendee or HalfMoon Education Inc. is audited.

Continuing Education Credit Information
This webinar is open to the public and is designed to qualify for 7.0 PDHs for professional engineers and 7.0 HSW continuing education hours for licensed architects in North Carolina.
HalfMoon Education is an approved continuing education sponsor for engineers in North Carolina (S-0130).
The American Institute of Architects Continuing Education System has approved this course for 7.0 HSW LUs (Sponsor No. J885). Only full participation is reportable to the AIA/CES.
The International Code Council has approved this event for .7 CEUs in the specialty area of Building (Preferred Provider No. 1232).
Attendance will be monitored, and attendance certificates will be available after the webinar for those who attend the entire course and score a minimum 80% on the quiz that follows the course (multiple attempts allowed).

Speakers
Jeffrey D. Vernon, MCP, CBO
Mecklenburg County Code Enforcement, Charlotte, NCMr. Vernon is a master code professional and a certified building official, and he holds North Carolina Level III certifications in all five trades (building, electric, mechanical, plumbing and fire). Mr. Vernon has been working in the construction industry for 38 years beginning with a six-year stint in the US Army where he served in Germany, Honduras, Alabama and at the US Army Engineer School in Ft. Belvoir, Virginia. He has worked in Prince William County in Virginia and in Lincoln, Gaston and Mecklenburg Counties in North Carolina. Through the years, he has been an inspector, a plan reviewer, a senior plan reviewer, and a department director among other job titles. Mr. Vernon is currently employed by Mecklenburg County Code Enforcement where he serves as the building code administrator. He has also been a part-time instructor at Central Piedmont Community College for the past ten years, and he serves as code consultant for University of North Carolina’s fifth year Architecture students. Mr. Vernon is also an ordained bishop.

Course Description: This seven-hour course analyzes the 2024 North Carolina Existing Building Code, providing specific focus on chapters 3-14 covering topics from alterations, to occupancy classifications, additions, and historic buildings, among others.
Learning Objectives:
Learning Objective 1:
Learners will be able to explain the purpose and scope of the International Existing Building Code and define and differentiate the three levels of alterations.
Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to describe how to change the occupancy classification of an existing building and assess the means of egress.
Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to explore the provisions for all compliance methods, including the prescriptive compliance method, work area compliance method, and the performance compliance method.
Learning Objective 4:
Learners will be able to discuss the code requirements impacting historic buildings and buildings that have been moved or relocated.
