This webinar is open to the public and is designed to qualify for 7.0 HSW continuing education hours for licensed architects and a 7.0-hour learning opportunity for engineers licensed in Connecticut.

Professionals seeking continuing education credit in other states may be able to claim the hours earned at this webinar. Refer to specific state rules to determine eligibility.

Milton "Greg" Grew, AIA

Architect - Building official - Codes Consultant

Mr. Grew is licensed as an architect in Connecticut, New York, and New Jersey. He is also licensed as a building official in Connecticut. For ten years Mr. Grew was the chief building official for the Town of East Hartford. Since 1989 he has been owner of his own architectural design practice working extensively in the residential, commercial, and institutional building sectors. With his expertise in codes, he has also maintained a practice as codes consultant to other architects, engineers, contractors, building owners, and municipalities. Mr. Grew has served on the AIA national Codes & Standards Committee and various committees of the International Code Council and ASTM International.

Course Title: 2022 Connecticut State Residential Code

Delivery Method: Live Online

Course Description: This seven-hour course closely analyzes and explains the provisions and regulations of the Connecticut residential building codes. The course focuses on the development and enforcement of the code, building planning, shell construction, energy efficiency, and mechanical, fuel, plumbing and electrical systems.

Learning Objectives:

Learning Objective 1:
Learners will be able to discuss the history and development of the International Residential Code, the adoption, amendment and enforcement of the codes in Connecticut.

Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to utilize chapters 2-10 of the code for building planning and shell construction. Topics include fire-resistant construction, means of egress, accessibility, solar energy, flood-resistance and more.

Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to utilize chapter 11 of the Code to increase energy efficiency by giving special consideration to climate classifications, thermal envelopes, insulation, fenestration, and lighting.

Learning Objective 4:
Learners will be able to reference applicable codes for information guiding the design and construction of mechanical, fuel, plumbing and electrical systems.
