Greg Karow

Mr. Karow is currently the building official of Winona, Minnesota. He has an extensive background in developing and presenting various types of building code and related seminars.  Mr. Karow was previously a staff instructor with the International Code Council and with the State of Minnesota Codes and Standards Division.  He has instructed in a Building Inspection Technology program at a local community college.  Mr. Karow is a certified building official in Minnesota and holds ICC certifications as a Certified Building Official, ICC Plans Examiner, ICC Building Inspector and ICC Building Code Specialist.

Course Description: This seven-hour lecture presentation provides a comprehensive breakdown of the provisions of the IBC Chapter 5, general building heights and areas as it relates to IBC Chapter 6, types of construction and occupancy classification in Chapter 3 of the 2018 IBC.

Learners will be able to quantify occupancy classification based on IBC Chapter 3.

Learners will be able to define the concept for addressing mixed-occupancy buildings.

Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to verify the application of accessory, separated and non-separated occupancies and how any or all of the provisions may be integrated into a single building. Consideration the advantages and disadvantages of each of the methods will be discussed.

Learners will be able to discuss allowable area increase options will be analyzed for single and mixed occupancy buildings.
