SketchUp for Building Professionals
Agenda
SketchUp for Building Professionals is a lecture-based seminar, where the instructor will demonstrate SketchUp features and the model-building processon a laptop computer. Computers will not be provided for attendees. Attendees who wish to do so may bring their own laptop computers loaded with the SketchUp program. However, as a lecture-based seminar there will be no time allotted for attendees to do exercises on their laptops, nor will the instructor spend instructing individual attendees about how to complete tasks on their laptops. In order to cover all of the scheduled content, the instructor will need to demonstrate features for the entire class.

MORNING SESSION – SKETCHUP BASICS
What is SketchUp and how does it work
What’s included in Pro that’s not in Make (the free version)
The importance of the 3D axes and developing coplanar surfaces
Navigating through SketchUp with a 3-button mouse
The drawing tools
• Line, rectangle, circle, arcs and guide (construction) lines
The editing tools
• Push-pull, move, copy, array, rotate, scale, offset, erase, tape measure, protractor, follow-me
The viewing tools
• 2-point and 3-point perspective, 2D (parallel projection) and standard views
• Look around, walk around
• Sections
• Scenes and animations
AFTERNOON SESSION – MODELING IN SKETCHUP
During the afternoon session the instructor will construct a
simple house model and demonstrate good modeling practices
Effectively and efficiently make SketchUp simple to use in any application
How to use groups, components, layers and scenes to simplify modeling
Model pitched roofs and resolve intersections
Add materials and colors
Add pre-drawn objects from the 3D Warehouse
Develop, save and share your own custom objects
Add shadows and study the effects of sunlight
Develop topography and organic forms with the sand box tools
Working with CAD files in SketchUp – import and export to and from SketchUp
Develop real-world building context with Google Earth
Presenting the model
• Create and export presentations from with-in SketchUp
• Create animations (movies) using scenes
• An introduction to a photo-realistic plug-in programs and what they can do
• An introduction to using the SketchUp LayOut program to develop
traditional 2D drawings with title blocks, notes, dimensions and details

This seminar is open to the public and offers 8.0 HSW contact hours for Florida architects and 8.0 HSW CEHs to Florida interior designers. The Florida Board of Architecture and Interior Design has approved this program.

HalfMoon Education is an approved continuing education provider for Florida professional engineers (Provider No. 0004647). This course qualifies for 4.0 Area of Practice continuing education hours.
Attendance will be monitored and reported, as required. Attendance certificates will be available after the seminar for most individuals who complete the entire event. Attendance certificates not available at the seminar will be mailed to participants within fifteen business days.
Speakers
Christopher A. Krupp
President of Krupp Associates Architects, PC and SketchUpAcademy.comMr. Krupp is a practicing architect and president of his own firm in Chicago, Illinois, with a branch office in Asheville, North Carolina. He has been a licensed architect for over 30 years and a user of SketchUp Pro since version 2 was released around 2001.
As the principal architect and designer at his firm, Mr. Krupp utilizes traditional free hand sketching, AutoCad and SketchUp throughout the design and construction document phases of his work. The integration of SketchUp into the daily work flow plays an increasingly important role in the development of new project designs, both residential and commercial. As SketchUp Pro has the ability to import CAD files as well as export CAD-ready files to AutoCad, designs can be developed in CAD and SketchUp virtually side by side with more and more importance being placed on SketchUp.
His latest venture, SketchUpAcademy.com, is a SketchUp-oriented website for new and experienced users. The website provides seminar attendees with additional problem-solving concepts as well as useful modeling tips and tricks. SketchUp Academy has successfully presented over 40 live seminars and webinars for HalfMoon Education.
Utilizing SketchUp, LayOut (a traditional style 2D drawing program linked to a SketchUp Pro 3D model) and other add-on extensions and plug-ins, Mr. Krupp produces design “sketches,” highly-detailed SketchUp models, photo-realistic renderings, walk-through animations, public hearing and client presentations and in some cases, construction drawings.
In addition to his work at Krupp Associates Architects, Mr. Krupp has taught SketchUp as an adjunct professor in a continuing education program at AB Tech Community College in Asheville, North Carolina. Students include architects, landscape architects, engineers, product designers, woodworkers, museum curators and home owners. He has written an extensive book, The SketchUp Primer, a copy of which you will receive at the seminar.
Mr. Krupp received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1975 (summa cum laude) in Architecture while studying at the University of Cincinnati and Ohio University and has received numerous awards for his designs of custom residential, commercial buildings and commercial interiors.
