Continuing Education Credit Information
This seminar is open to the public and offers up to 6.5 continuing education hours to professional engineers and 6.5 HSW continuing education hours to architects in most states.
The New York State Education Department considers courses as approved for New York State mandatory continuing education for professional engineers if the sponsor’s courses are approved by the American Institute of Architects Continuing Education System and are in approved subject areas.
The American Institute of Architects has approved this course for 6.5 HSW Learning Units (Sponsor No. J885). Only full attendance can be reported to the AIA/CES. Courses approved by the AIA qualify for New Jersey architects.
HalfMoon Education is an approved continuing education sponsor for engineers in Florida, Indiana (License No. CE21700059), Maryland, New Jersey (Approval No. 24GP00000700), North Carolina, and North Dakota.
This event offers a non-credit continuing education opportunity to construction contractors. It has not been approved by any state with a continuing education requirement for contractors.
Speakers

Course Title: Shallow Foundation Design, Construction, and Repair
Delivery Method: Live
Course Description: This 6.5 hour live lecture examines shallow foundation science, building site evaluation, shallow foundation design and construction, managing special situations in foundation design and construction, and diagnosing and repairing foundation problems.
Learning Objectives:
Learning Objective 1:
Learners will be able to discuss the importance of understanding soil mechanics, conducting soil tests, and carrying out site evaluations when undertaking a shallow foundation design project.
Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to identify and differentiate design considerations for foundations on sand, clay, and special soil and site conditions.
Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to explain shallow foundation strategies for site grading, soil improvement, dewatering/drainage in accordance with applicable building codes.
Learning Objective 4:
Learners will be able to identify common causes of foundation damage and their prescribed repair techniques, including interior floor support, mudjacking, deep grouting, underpinning, and soil stabilization.
