This seminar is open to the public and offers 6.5 CM credits for AICP Certified Planners. Only full attendance is reportable to the AICP.

This course also offers 5.0 accessibility continuing education hours to California architects. Educators and courses are not subject to preapproval.

The American Institute of Architects Continuing Education System has approved this activity for 6.5 LU|HSW (Sponsor No. J885). Visit www.halfmoonseminars.org for complete AIA/CES information. Only full attendance is reportable to the AIA/CES.

This course offers 6.5 hours of non-credit continuing education to professional engineers and landscape architects licensed in California. It will qualify for continuing education credit for architects, engineers and landscape architects licensed in most states. Refer to specific states rules to determine eligibility.

The Landscape Architect Continuing Education System has approved this course for 6.5 HSW PDHs. Only full attendance is reportable to the LA CES.

The International Code Council has approved this event for .65 CEUs in the specialty area of Accessibility (Preferred Provider No. 1232).

This course also offers a non-credit continuing education opportunity to construction contractors. Credit approval is not being sought in any state with a contractor continuing education requirement.

Attendance will be monitored, and attendance certificates will be available after the seminar for most individuals who complete the entire event. Attendance certificates not available at the seminar will be mailed to participants within fifteen business days.

Glenn Dea AIA ADAC CASp

President of Collaborative Access Studio
Employed in the architecture and construction industry since 1988, Mr. Dea is a licensed architect in the states of California and Utah and is an ICC-certified accessibility inspector/plans examiner. Since 2001, his practice has focused on compliance with federal and state accessibility standards, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) transition plan services, and accessible design covering buildings, sites, and pedestrian facilities in public rights-of-way. This has encompassed accessibility evaluations, plan reviews, and code analyses for numerous corporate, education, and governmental clients.

Summary of Experience

  • Consultant access compliance plan reviewer to California’s Division of the State Architect (DSA) – Los Angeles Basin Region Office (2004-2011)
  •  One of California’s first certified access specialists (CASp #023), based on experience and testing criteria administered by the DSA (2008)
  • Alternate delegate (2014-2021) and primary delegate (2021-current) to the ICC/ANSI Committee on Accessible and Usable Buildings and Facilities, contributing to creation of the 2017 edition of the ICC A117.1 Accessibility
    Standard. The A117.1 Standard is adopted by building code jurisdictions throughout the United States.
  • Provider of over 50 accessibility training presentations to licensed architects and engineers, attorneys, public agencies, and professional organizations, including a 5-hour course addressing the continuing education
    requirement for California architects.
  •  Provider of technical assistance to attorneys and other clients to assist in the resolution of lawsuits, complaints, and claims related to state and federal access laws.

Course Title: Designing Accessible Pedestrian Facilities under ADA Standards and the CBC

Course Description: This 6.5 hour live lecture presentation examines Americans with Disability Act and California Building Code requirements for pedestrian routes and warnings, doors, doorways and gates, and traffic control. It also covers accessibility standards for on-site parking. electric vehicle charging stations, passenger loading zones, play areas and other outdoor developed areas.

Learning Objectives:

Learning Objective 1:
Learners will be able to identify which accessibility standards apply to specific pedestrian access routes.

Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to design code-compliant sidewalk and other pedestrian circulation paths, street crossings, at-grade rail crossings, and pedestrian overpasses and underpasses.

Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to identify and comply with accessibility requirements for on-site parking, passenger loading zones and bus stops, transportation facilities, electrical vehicle charging stations, play areas, and outdoor developed areas.

Learning Objective 4:
Learners will be able to comply with code compliance requirements for fire alarm systems and means of egress for elevators and platform lifts.
