Design Your Solar Roof

   Introduction to solar design software

      • Use Google Earth to pick a rooftop for your design

      • Model an array layout with software-based assistance (software is provided)

   Impact of module and inverter selection on system wiring

   Residential interconnection options and grounding parameters

   Wire/conduit selection and voltage drop

   Convert array layout into a racking plan

   Prepare your solar design for structural engineering

   Permit package and code requirements

 

What to Expect at our Hands-on Solar Design Live Seminar and Webcast

Attendees, both at the in-person seminar in Altoona, and those participating in the live webcast, will have the opportunity to participate in a live residential solar design activity or to simply watch the instructor complete the design activity. After a brief introduction, the instructor and students will choose locations for their design activities using Google Earth and will use various software programs to perform remote solar assessments, system design and material selection. The software programs will be free for use at the seminar only; some costs may apply if the attendees choose to use the software for design activities after the class is over.

Attendees at the live seminar in Altoona should:

Bring a PC or Mac laptop with the Google Chrome web browser installed. 
Participants will use the HalfMoon Education’s wi-fi to connect to the internet to complete the design activity.

Those participating in the live webcast should:

Use their PC or Mac computer to connect to the webcast using Go-to-Meeting. 
Students who wish to participate in the design activity will need to have the Google Chrome browser installed on their computers.

Both in-person seminar and live webcast participants will receive an email in advance 
of the seminar with more detailed  
information on the design activity and software to be used to complete it.

Continuing Education Credit Information

These seminars and webcasts are open to the public, and each offer 3.0 HSW continuing education hours tor architects and 3.0 PDHs to professional engineers in all states. Educators and courses are not subject to preapproval in Wisconsin.

Each seminar and webcast is approved by the American Institute of Architects for 3.0 HSW Learning Units (Sponsor No. J885).

HalfMoon Education is an approved continuing education sponsor for architects in Florida and is deemed an approved sponsor in New York. HalfMoon Education is an approved continuing education sponsor for engineers in Florida, Indiana, Louisiana, Maryland, New Jersey,New York (NYSED Sponsor No. 35), North Carolina, and North Dakota. Continuing education credit for Wisconsin electrical contractors is applied for and pending for both events. Current information on this credit will be posted here.

This course is registered with the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) for 3.0 hours, which includes 3.0 hours for PV Installation (JTA or elective), 3.0 hours for PV Tech Sales (JTA or Elective), and 3.0 hours for SH Installer (Elective), and no Code hours. 

 

 

Attendance will be monitored and attendance certificates will be available after the seminar for most individuals who complete the entire program. Attendance certificates not available at the seminar will be mailed to participants within fifteen business days.
