All attendees must log-on through their own email – attendees may not watch together if they wish to earn continuing education credit. HalfMoon Education Inc. must be able to prove attendance if either the attendee or HalfMoon Education Inc. is audited.

This seminar and simultaneous webinar are open to the public and are designed to qualify for 7.0 PDHs for professional engineers and 7.0 HSW continuing education hours for licensed architects in Ohio.
The American Institute of Architects Continuing Education System has approved this course for 7.0 HSW LUs (Sponsor No. J885). Only full participation is reportable to the AIA/CES.
The International Code Council has approved this event for .7 CEUs in the specialty area of Building (Preferred Provider No. 1232).

Speakers
Robert J. "Bob" Schutz
Retired Building Official with the City of Columbus, OhioMr. Schutz is a retired building official with the City of Columbus, Ohio. He was previously a senior staff engineer with the International Code Council in product development after several years as their manager of instructors in the ICC Training & Education Department. Mr. Schutz has also served as an assistant architect administrator at the Ohio Board of Building Standards. While with the State of Ohio, he oversaw the new Residential Code of Ohio program, including certification of local residential code departments and personnel. His varied previous experiences include active duty Army and Ohio National Guard experience as a combat engineer officer; building code enforcement for several central Ohio jurisdictions, including ten years as chief building official (CBO) for the City of Powell where he also served as city engineer and director of public services; and chief engineer for the Ohio Department of Health, where Mr. Schutz chaired the state’s plumbing advisory board, was chief of plumbing and was a voting member on the Ohio Board of Building Standards.

Course Title: 2024 Ohio Building Code

Course Description: This seven-hour course begins with a discussion on the development, terminology, enforcement and changes of the 2021 International Building Code and its adoption in Ohio, before closely analyzing chapters 3-12, 14-16, and 27-29. The course will cover code-compliant fire protection, egress, accessibility, structural design, roofs, HVAC, MEP systems, and more.
Learning Objectives:
Learning Objective 1:
Learners will be able to discuss the development of the International Building Code 2021, explain the code adoption and amendment processes in Ohio, and explore the 2021 changes.
Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to analyze chapters 6-9 of the code and utilize code-compliant life safety systems and fire and smoke protection features.
Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to examine chapters 10-11 of the code to incorporate accessible facilities, routes, entrances and exits in their designs.
Learning Objective 4:
Learners will be able to adopt code-compliant construction techniques and use of specific materials, including concrete, masonry, wood, aluminum, steel and glass.
Learning Objective 5:
Learners will be able to explore chapters 27-29 of the IBC and discuss code-compliant electrical, mechanical and plumbing system design.
