Continuing Education Credit Information

This seminar is open to the public and offers 6.5 HSW continuing education hours to architects and 6.5 PDHs to professional engineers in all states. Educators and courses are not subject to preapproval in Mississippi.

The American Institute of Architects has approved this course for 6.5 HSW Learning Units (Sponsor No. J885).

HalfMoon Education is an approved continuing education sponsor for architects in Florida (Provider No. 0001388; License No. PVD394) and is deemed an approved sponsor in New York. HalfMoon Education is an approved continuing education sponsor for engineers in Florida (Provider No. 0004647), Indiana, Louisiana, Maryland, New Jersey (ApprovalNo. 24GP00000700), New York (NYSED Sponsor No. 35), North Carolina, and North Dakota.

This seminar offers construction contractors a non-credit continuing education opportunity. It has not been approved by any state contractor licensing board for continuing education purposes.

Attendance will be monitored, and attendance certificates will be available after the seminar for most individuals who complete the entire event. Attendance certificates not available at the seminar will be mailed to participants within fifteen business days.

Speakers

Ghada Ellithy, PhD, PE

Ghada Ellithy, PhD, PE, has about 20 years of professional and academic experience in the field of civil engineering with an emphasis on geotechnical engineering. She received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Civil Engineering from Ain Shams University, Cairo, Egypt, with an emphasis on Geotechnical Engineering. She received her Ph.D. degree from West Virginia University, focusing her research on Geosynthetic Interfaces. Ms. Ellithy joined the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ (USACE) Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC), Vicksburg, Mississippi, in 2014. Since then she has been a primary investigator on projects related to dam and levee safety with a focus on transient seepage and overtopping erosion of dams and levees. Prior to joining ERDC, Ms. Ellithy worked as a project manager and lead design engineer with the USACE Seattle District, and with geotechnical consultants on various geotechnical and research and development projects in Seattle, Columbus and Baltimore. She is also an adjunct professor at Mississippi State University. Her research and design experience in the areas of dams and levees, highway structures and geosynthetics development includes: numerical modeling, transient seepage analysis, stability analysis, seismic site response, field instrumentation and laboratory testing on unsaturated soils, design and dynamic response of deep foundations and anchoring systems, gas and liquid transmissivity of soils and geosynthetics for geo-environmental systems, mechanically stabilized walls and stabilized pavement sections. Ms. Ellithy is a licensed professional engineer in Washington and Maryland.
