Course Title: Practical Site Engineering: Science and Techniques
Delivery Method: Live
Course Description: This is a 7.0 hour live lecture presentation with the instructors and students together in the same room. It will be conducted in a handicap-accessible conference room with ample seating space and writing surface for all attendees. Bound written materials, authored by the faculty, will be distributed to all participants at the program. Attendance will be monitored and reported to AIA/CES. This course covers the purposes of site engineering, soils and landforms, stormwater management, earthwork safety, site plans, site grading, and site program management.
Learning Objectives:
Learning Objective 1:
Learners will be able to discuss the impact of soils and landforms on site development and how sites can be engineered to manage stormwater and minimize erosion.
Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to describe the issues that must be taken into consideration for earthwork safety, including weight of soil and excavation hazards, underground installations, and water accumulation.
Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to decribe the advantages of site engineering, including slope stabilization, stormwater management, landscape aesthetics, minimizing disturbance and preserving natural features, and engineering for built elements.
Learning Objective 4:
Learners will be able to assist in the development of site plans by considering the results of soil investigations, surface water and ground water, and necessary grading.
