Continuing Education Credit Information

This seminar is open to the public and offers up to 6.5 HSW continuing education hours to architects and 6.5 PDHs to professional engineers in all states. Educators and courses are not subject to preapproval in Alabama.

This seminar is approved by the American Institute of Architects for 6.5 HSW Learning Units (Sponsor No. J885).

HalfMoon Education is an approved continuing education sponsor for architects in Florida and is deemed an approved sponsor in New York. HalfMoon Education is an approved continuing education sponsor for engineers in Florida, Indiana, Louisiana, Maryland, New Jersey (ApprovalNo. 24GP00000700), New York (NYSED Sponsor No. 35), North Carolina, and North Dakota.

This program offers a non-credit continuing education opportunity to Alabama construction contractors, but it has not been submitted to any state contractor licensing entity for course approval.

Attendance will be monitored, and attendance certificates will be available after the seminar for most individuals who complete the entire event. Attendance certificates not available at the seminar will be mailed to participants within fifteen business days.

Speakers

Graham Hurley, P.E.

Advanced Materials Services, LLC

Project Engineer with Advanced Materials Services, LLCMr. Hurley joined AMS in 2007. He has over 15 years’ experience in the design, testing, and construction of pavements. Mr. Hurley has developed asphalt mix designs for contractors, and he has conducted numerous research projects evaluating a wide range of sustainable engineering concepts. Prior to joining AMS, he was a laboratory engineer at the National Center for Asphalt Technology (NCAT). Mr. Hurley earned both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Civil Engineering from Auburn University, where he completed the Cooperative Education program as an asphalt technician at NCAT. He is a registered professional engineer in Alabama.

Brian Prowell, Ph.D., P.E.

Advanced Materials Services, LLC

Principal Engineer of Advanced Materials Services, LLCDr. Prowell joined AMS in 2007. He has over 20 years of experience in construction, materials and pavement design. Dr. Prowell has designed flexible and rigid pavements for a variety of usages ranging from parking lots, interstate highways and intermodal (port) facilities. He is also active in supporting sustainable engineering concepts, including: warm mix asphalt, pervious pavement materials, and higher utilization of recycled materials. Prior to joining AMS, Dr. Powell was an assistant director at the National Center for Asphalt Technology at Auburn University and a senior research scientist at Virginia Transportation Research Council, a division of Virginia Department of Transportation. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from the Pennsylvania State University, a master’s degree in Civil Engineering from Virginia Tech, and a doctorate in Civil Engineering from Auburn University. Dr. Powell has served on a number of Transportation Research Board Committees, including AFK50, Characteristics of Asphalt Paving Mixtures to Meet Structural Requirements, and AFO00 (2), Pavement Materials and the Urban Climate. He is a registered professional engineer in Oregon, South Carolina, and Virginia.

Marcia Prowell, P.E.
