Speakers
Jacob Hill, P.E., Esq.
Alabama attorney and professional engineer, Jacob W. Hill, has been involved in various roles in the construction industry — from laborer to design engineer, superintendent, and project manager. He is experienced in the management of construction projects, particularly design-build. Today he focuses on developing and building industrial facilities across North America with his current primary focus being in Latin America. Having years of hands-on field experience coupled with technical and legal training allows Mr. Hill to bring a practical, unique perspective to project development. Today, Mr. Hill continues to take a hands-on approach to project development, which usually commences once a project is conceptualized, at which point, he couples his diverse field experience, legal and technical background in selecting property, negotiating with local stakeholders and public utilities, procurement and contractor selection, risk identification and mitigation, among other things. And after construction commences, he spends most of his time in the field monitoring progress and handling changes, delays, and claims. In collaboration with all project stakeholders, he facilitates and streamlines the procurement, performance and close-out of construction projects. He has been a speaker to construction industry groups, with topics including risk management and liens. He is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, the American Institute of Steel Construction, the American Concrete Institute, and the American Bar Association Forum on Construction Law. Mr. Hill earned his Bachelor of Civil Engineering and Master of Science in Civil Engineering degrees from Auburn University where his post-graduate studies focused on construction and geotechnical engineering. He later obtained a law degree from Birmingham School of Law. Although Mr. Hill doesn’t practice engineering or law currently, he maintains his professional engineering and law licenses in Alabama.
