Course Title: Using Fire as a Management Tool

Delivery Method: Live Online

Course Description: This two-hour course examines how prescribed fire can be strategically applied in Western U.S. landscapes to reduce wildfire risks to buildings and communities. Instruction emphasizes how integrating fire as a management tool supports long-term fire protection for the built environment by reducing fuel loads, restoring ecological balance, and strengthening the resilience of surrounding landscapes.

Learning Objectives:

Learning Objective 1: Learners will be able to explain how prescribed fire reduces surrounding fuel loads and contributes to long-term fire protection for structures and communities in the Western U.S.

Learning Objective 2: Learners will be able to evaluate the practical applications of prescribed fire for habitat restoration, invasive species management, and resilience building.

Learning Objective 3: Learners will be able to identify policy, training, and community-based approaches that expand the safe and effective use of prescribed fire.

Learning Objective 4: Learners will be able to analyze lessons from prescribed burn associations to inform design strategies that enhance building resilience within fire-prone landscapes.
