Certificates of completion can be downloaded in PDF form upon passing a short quiz. A link to the quiz will be sent to each qualifying attendee immediately after the webinar. The certificate can be downloaded from the Results page of the quiz upon scoring 80% or higher.

Continuing Education Information
This webinar is open to the public and is designed to qualify for 6.0 CLE hours, including 1.0 ethics hour, for paralegals in Alaska. Paralegal certification is not required to participate in this course.
The National Federation of Paralegal Associations (NFPA) has approved this course for 6.0 total CLE credits, which includes 5.0 general CLE credits and 1.0 ethics CLE credit.
Attendance will be monitored, and attendance certificates will be available after the webinar for those who attend the entire course and score a minimum 80% on the quiz that follows the course (multiple attempts allowed).

Speakers
Maureen DeLauriea
Paralegal, in Fairbanks, AKMs. DeLauriea has been in the legal field for over 35 years. Her legal career started in Chicago, Illinois. Ms. DeLauriea worked in Litigation, Family Law, Intellectual Property (patents and trademarks) and criminal, as well as attorney recruitment and summer associate programs. She moved to Fairbanks, Alaska and continued her career in the legal field. Law firms are smaller than in Chicago, but that did not stop her from furthering her career. Ms. DeLauriea learned more about the Administration of a law firm, intake of new clients, billing, payroll, and hiring new employees. She attended the University of Alaska Fairbanks and earned a paralegal degree. Ms. DeLauriea began teaching in the Paralegal Studies program in 2017 and has enjoyed sharing her knowledge and experience with the students. She currently works in a Law firm that handles Worker’s Compensation, Family Law, Probate, and Personal Injury. Ms. DeLauriea greatest accomplishment was getting her paralegal degree. Being able to share her knowledge with other paralegals and learning from other paralegals makes her adventure in the legal field more exciting.
Louis P. Grasso
Attorney and Owner of Louis P. Grasso Attorney at Law, in Anchorage, AKMr. Grasso’s practice focuses predominantly in domestic relations and criminal defense. Mr. Grasso was previously with the Law Offices of Blake Fulton Quackenbush where he was the head of the criminal law department and lead domestic relations counsel in more than 100 domestic relations cases. He is licensed to practice in the State of Alaska and Georgia. Mr. Grasso earned his B.S. degree from Dominican University and his J.D. degree from Albany Law School.
Rachel Lauesen
Attorney with Lauesen Law Team LLC, in Anchorage, AKMs. Lauesen started her legal career with an established boutique law firm specializing in Alaska Native Law. Ms. Lauesen then gained valuable transactional experience working in-house for one of Alaska’s largest Alaska Native Village Corporations, where she obtained corporate-wide recognition for embodying the Iñupiaq value of nagliktuutiqaġniq—Compassion. However, she is a litigator at heart, and she returned to
private practice in 2014 to advance her litigation skills in domestic relations, high-volume personal injury, and federal criminal defense. Ms. Lauesen is constantly looking to improve her skills through programs like The Trial Lawyers College. She is motivated by an immense desire to help people and obtains results through hard work and common sense. Ms. Lauesen was born and raised in Fairbanks and Anchorage, Alaska and graduated from the University of Alaska Fairbanks in 2004 (B.A. History). She obtained her juris doctorate (law) degree from the University of Wisconsin Madison in 2008, where she was awarded the Sonnet B. Schmidt Edmonds Award for Excellence in Energy Law and the Indigenous Law Students Outstanding Student Award.
Julia D. Moudy
Attorney with Dillon Findley & Simonian, P.C., in Anchorage, AKMs. Moudy joined the Firm’s litigation and trial team, with an emphasis on medical malpractice. She has tried over 100 cases to a jury, worked almost 27 years in the Alaska Public Defender Agency, and litigated civil and criminal cases in courtrooms all around the state for 29 years. Raised in Talkeetna, she graduated magna cum laude from Gonzaga Law School in 1994. While in law school, she successfully argued a habeas petition before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and received the Public Service Award from the Washington State Trial Lawyers Association.
Deana M. Waters, M.Ed., ACP
Director, American Association for Paralegal EducationMs. Waters graduated from the University of Montana with a Bachelor’s in English and History in 1995 and an Associate of Applied Science in Legal Assisting in 1998. In 2020, she earned a Masters of Education in Online Innovation and Design from the University of Alaska Fairbanks. She was employed as a paralegal with a private law firm in Fairbanks, Alaska, for 15 years, where she specialized in civil litigation, family law, workers’ compensation and collections. Ms. Waters earned the Certified Paralegal (CP®) credential in 2005 and the Advanced Paralegal Certification (ACP®) in Discovery in 2007. In 2015, she was appointed program coordinator and faculty for UAF’s Community &Technical College Paralegal Studies program. She teaches Introduction to Paralegal Studies, Ethics for Paralegals, Civil Procedure, Torts, Family Law, Constitutional Law and Advanced Legal Writing. Ms. Waters has served various roles in NALA-The Paralegal Association since 2010, including the Continuing Education Council, regional director, ACP taskforce and school relations taskforce. She also serves as a regional director for the American Association for Paralegal Education.
