Description

A water main fails under six lanes of interstate traffic. A century-old sewer needs replacement beneath a hospital. A gas line runs directly under a river.

Open cut isn’t an option. Not without shutting down traffic, disrupting patient care, or tearing into a waterway.

This is where trenchless construction earns its keep.

But choosing the right method, and executing it correctly, is anything but simple. Get the technique wrong, misjudge the soil conditions, or underestimate the geotechnical risk, and a project that should have saved time and money turns into a costly, highly visible failure.

So if you’re weighing pipe jacking against microtunneling, wondering when horizontal directional drilling makes sense, or trying to choose between pipe bursting and cured in place pipe for a rehabilitation project, this training is for you.

Join Dr. Alan Atalah, PhD, PE, ASCE Fellow and Construction Management Professor at Bowling Green State University, as he walks you through the full range of trenchless techniques, from pipe jacking and horizontal directional drilling to tunneling, pipe bursting, and cured in place pipe rehabilitation.

Drawing on decades building water and wastewater infrastructure in some of the most challenging ground conditions imaginable, from high water tables to tunneling beneath sensitive commercial districts, Dr. Atalah will help you select the right trenchless method for the job, avoid the technical missteps that lead to costly failures, and deliver underground infrastructure projects with confidence.

Don’t let the wrong method turn a routine project into a costly failure.

Demand is high!

Speakers

Dr. Alan Atalah, PhD, PE, ASCE Fellow

Construction Management Professor at Bowling Green State University

Dr. Atalah teaches construction management at Bowling Green State University (BGSU). He has taught and mentored hundreds of construction management students since 2000. Dr. Atalah has written many peer-reviewed-journal and conference papers. He has made hundreds of construction management presentations in many national and international conferences and educational seminars. Dr. Atalah has been involved in the construction of water and wastewater projects since 1984. He earned a Doctor of Engineering degree, an MS degree in Civil Engineering, and MBA degrees from Louisiana Tech University, Ruston, LA. After his graduation with a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering in 1982, he worked on the construction of wastewater projects in very challenging conditions such as high ground water table, stratified soils, unknown utilities, congested streets, and nearby high-rise buildings. Dr. Atalah also worked on the construction of water and wastewater projects in very challenging conditions such as tunneling in very sensitive tourism and commercial areas where construction disturbance must be minimized on the island of Oahu, Hawaii.
