Course Title: Seismic Evaluation and Retrofit of Existing Buildings under ASCE 41-23: Seismic Performance and Ground Motions
Delivery Method: Live Online
Course Description: This 6.5-hour course explores seismic evaluation and retrofitting of existing buildings in accordance with ASCE 41-23, focusing on seismic performance, ground motions, and structural response. The course will examine earthquake ground motions, structural behavior, and the principles of earthquake-resistant design. The course also covers seismic hazard levels, retrofit requirements, and soil-structure interaction effects.
Learning Objectives:
Learning Objective 1: Learners will be able to analyze earthquake ground motions, response spectra, and their effects on building structures.
Learning Objective 2: Learners will be able to discuss seismic design principles, including load path continuity, stiffness, ductility, and separation from adjacent structures.
Learning Objective 3: Learners will be able to utilize ASCE 41-23 seismic hazard levels and performance objectives for evaluating and retrofitting existing buildings.
Learning Objective 4: Learners will be able to assess foundation behavior, site characteristics, and soil-structure interaction effects to mitigate seismic risks.
