Principal of The Pakatar GroupThe Pakatar Group, a firm dedicated to the built environment. Mr. Pakatar is an industry veteran with several years of experience teaching home performance and construction-related topics. He holds certifications from the International Code Council, the Association of Energy Engineers, the Building Performance Institute, the U.S. Green Building Council and RESNET. Mr. Pakatar is a certified code enforcement officer in New York State and holds the energy code inspector and plans examiner credentials with ICC. Over the past 10 years He has prepared and delivered training to code enforcement officers, design professionals and other construction industry stakeholders throughout the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions. Mr. Pakatar has taught throughout the United States. Having participated in creating protocols on several pertinent topics, He is considered a subject matter expert on those topics.

Course Title: Residential Provisions of the 2020 Energy Conservation Construction Code of New York State

Course Description: This seven-hour course examines the residential provisions of the 2020 Energy Conservation Construction Code of New York State which is based on the 2018 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC). The course focuses on residential chapters 2-4, covering materials, systems, thermal envelopes, energy modeling, HVAC, mechanical systems, lighting and power systems and more. The course will also explore chapter 5 on additions, alterations and repairs to existing buildings.

Learning Objective 1:
Learners will be able to explain the history, development and scope of the 2018 IECC and discuss its adoption with amendments in New York State.
Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to analyze thermal building envelope design, utilize prescriptive insulation and fenestration, and assess building efficiency using REScheck.
Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to locate, reference and comply with code requirements for service hot water systems, mechanical ventilation systems and control systems.
Learning Objective 4:
Learners will be able to explore code provisions applicable to existing buildings, such as those related to additions, alterations, repairs, and changes of occupancy.
