All attendees must log-on through their own email – attendees may not watch together if they wish to earn continuing education credit. HalfMoon Education Inc. must be able to prove attendance if either the attendee or HalfMoon Education Inc. is audited. 

Certificates of completion can be downloaded in PDF form upon passing a short quiz. A link to the quiz will be sent to each qualifying attendee immediately after the webinar. The certificate can be downloaded from the Results page of the quiz upon scoring 80% or higher.

This webinar is open to the public and is designed to qualify for 2.0 PDHs for professional engineers, 2.0 HSW continuing education hours for licensed architects, and 2.0 HSW continuing education hours for landscape architects in all states that allow this learning method. Nathaniel Goeckner

Natural Resource Supervisor - City of Louisville Open Space - Certified Ecologist (ESA), Colorado Native Plant Master®

Mr. Goeckner is an environmental professional specializing in sustainable land management, wildfire mitigation, and stewardship of grassland and forest ecosystems. He holds a Master of the Environment degree from the University of Colorado Boulder with a focus on Sustainable Planning and Public Land Policy, and a bachelor’s degree in Natural Resource Management from the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point. Mr. Goeckner has professional experience as a wildland firefighter and wilderness ranger with the Bureau of Land Management, as well as in municipal natural resource and ecological management on the landscape scale. He is a Certified Ecologist through the Ecological Society of America, a Colorado Native Plant Master, and a co-author of multiple Colorado State University Extension fact sheets in the Wildfire Mitigation Series, including publications on low-flammability and fire-resistant landscaping. His work emphasizes practical, science-based strategies for reducing wildfire risk while promoting resilient, ecologically sound landscapes.

Course Title:  Prescribed Grazing for Grassland Fuel Management

Delivery Method: Live Online 

Course Description: This two-hour course examines prescribed grazing as a practical, land-based strategy for reducing grassland fire risk, particularly at the grassland urban interface. The program explains how fuel characteristics, grazing timing, animal selection, and site monitoring influence fire behavior, and demonstrates how prescribed grazing can be integrated with community planning and home hardening to support long-term resilience.

Learning Objectives: 

Learning Objective 1: Learners will be able to identify key grassland fuel characteristics that influence wildfire risk and behavior, including fine fuels, fuel continuity, and fuel height.

Learning Objective 2: Learners will be able to explain how grazing variables such as animal type, stocking rate, vegetation palatability, and seasonality affect fuel reduction outcomes.

Learning Objective 3: Learners will be able to evaluate site conditions using ecological site descriptions, soil mapping, and monitoring data to assess the suitability of prescribed grazing for fuel management.

Learning Objective 4: Learners will be able to apply prescribed grazing concepts within broader fire risk mitigation strategies, including community partnerships, contingency planning, and coordination with home hardening efforts.
