All attendees must log-on through their own email – attendees may not watch together if they wish to earn continuing education credit. HalfMoon Education Inc. must be able to prove attendance if either the attendee or HalfMoon Education Inc. is audited.

Certificates of completion can be downloaded in PDF form upon passing a short quiz. A link to the quiz will be sent to each qualifying attendee immediately after the webinar. The certificate can be downloaded from the Results page of the quiz upon scoring 80% or higher.

Webinars are presented via GoToWebinar, an easy-to-use application that can be run on most systems and tablets. Continuing Education Credit Information

This webinar is open to the public and are designed to qualify for 3.0 PDHs for professional engineers and 3.0 HSW continuing education hours for licensed architects in all states that allow this learning method. Please refer to specific state rules to determine eligibility.

Sara Loomer

Osborn Engineering

Ms. Loomer is Osborn’s Manager of Fire Protection and Life Safety Engineering. She has over 15 years of experience in the fire and life safety consulting business. Ms. Loomer is experienced in multiple aspects of fire and life safety design, including both active and passive fire protection systems, with an emphasis on industrial projects. Experience includes fire protection design, equipment sizing, code compliance, fire protection and life safety audits, hazardous materials storage, combustible dust handling, and various design concepts for both buildings and processes. She has designed fire protection systems, conducted compliance audits, and prepared hazardous materials compliance plans and alternative compliance studies across various building occupancies. Ms. Loomer’s industrial background includes design of wet-pipe, dry-pipe, pre-action, foamwater deluge, water curtains and fixed foam systems. She has also worked on fixed and automatic monitors, clean agent systems, and inert system as well as accompanying detection systems.

Scott Voelkerding, PE

Osborn Engineering

Mr. Voelkerding is the Director of Fire and Life Safety at Osborn. He is technically experienced in many aspects of fire protection engineering including fire, building, and Life Safety Code consulting, hazardous materials storage, due diligence studies, and various design concepts for fire protection systems, fire alarm systems, sprinkler systems, smoke control systems, means of egress, and other life safety systems. Mr. Voelkerding has managed a range of projects from engineering studies to blank purchase agreements (BPAs) for fire protection services. He is a member of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and an associate member of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE). Mr. Voelkerding passed the Fire Protection Engineering PE Exam administered by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) and practices engineering as a full-time fire protection engineer and life safety consultant.

Course Title: Fire Protection for Special Occupancies: Health Care Facilities

Course Description: This three-hour course defines what qualifies as health care occupancies, analyzes the NFPA 99 and 101 codes, and examines a wide range of fire protection features and considerations for health care facilities.

Learning Objectives:

Learning Objective 1:
Learners will be able to define health care building occupancies and reference codes and standards regarding fire protection for health care facilities, including NFPA 99 and NFPA 101.

Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to discuss fire resistant construction examine specific strategies such as compartmentation.

Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to utilize detection/alarm systems as well as sprinklers and extinguishing equipment.

Learning Objective 4:
Learners will be able to discuss the specific needs and considerations of health care facilities, such as laboratories, hazardous material and incinerators.
