Course Title: Erosion and Sediment Control
Delivery Method: Live Online
Course Description: This eight-hour live course examines the goals, requirements, and practices of erosion and sediment control. The course investigates the causes of erosion and sedimentation, demonstrates how to minimize site disturbance, explores strategies to control erosion and sedimentation including the use of vegetation and other non-structural tools, and discusses flocculant applications, streambank and shoreline protection, drainage and ground stabilization, and operations and maintenance planning.
Learning Objectives:
Learning Objective 1:
Learners will be able to utilize practices that minimize project site disturbances that cause erosion and preserve native vegetation.
Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to control sedimentation through practices such as perimeter protection, concentrated flow protection, dewatering, stormwater inlet protection, sediment trapping and temporary diversions.
Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to reference and comply with federal Environmental Protection Agency erosion and sediment control requirements and regulations.
Learning Objective 4:
Learners will be able to control erosion with the use of best practices, including seeding, mulching, turf reinforcement, hydromulches, cellular confinement, and porous pavements.
Learning Objective 5:
Learners will be able to establish practices to protect streambanks from erosion and be able to explain how to stabilize them.
Learning Objective 6:
Learners will be able to utilize drainage and ground stabilization practices and plan for operations and maintenance.
