Course Title: Efficient Residential Space Heating

Delivery Method: Live Online

Course Description: This 6.5-hour course closely examines different residential space heating methods, how they work, their efficiency, optimal uses, and how to incorporate them into a residential structure. Heating methods include combustion-based, air-source heat pumps, and solar-assisted systems.

Learning Objectives:

Learning Objective 1:
Learners will be able to understand the laws of thermodynamics and apply them to HVAC systems, calculate heating and cooling loads, and discuss the effect of air flow and insulation.

Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to analyze and optimize combustion-based heating systems through a discussion of boiler fundamentals, operation, and technologies.

Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to understand how air-source heat pumps work: the process cycle, terminology, measures of performance, and coefficient of performance (COP). Operation and performance in cold climates is also discussed.

Learning Objective 4:
Learners will be able to to utilize ground-source heat pumps, including closed loop, open loop and standing column heat pumps, and maximize their efficiency.

Learning Objective 5:
