Principal with Klepper, Hahn & Hyatt in SyracuseMr. D’Aloisio is a principal with Klepper, Hahn & Hyatt, a structural engineering, landscape architecture, and building envelope services firm in East Syracuse, New York. A graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and is a registered professional engineer in New York and Massachusetts. He is a member and past president (1997 – 1998) of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Syracuse Section, and a member of the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC), the American Concrete Institute (ACI), the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE), and the Structural Engineers Association of New York State (SEAoNY). Mr. D’Aloisio is a member of ASCE/SEI’s Frost-Protected Shallow Foundations Committee, the Structural Condition Assessment of Existing Buildings Committee, and the Sustainability Committee. Mr. D’Aloisio received the Order of the Engineer at Syracuse University in 1997. His 30-plus years’ experience as a consulting structural engineer has primarily involved the design of new building structures, additions, and modifications, and analyses, assessments, and investigations of structures and facades. Mr. D’Aloisio has performed structural condition reviews of over 15 million square feet of buildings and he has performed over 150 structural forensic investigations. He has presented over 300 times.

Course Title: Complying with Special Inspection Requirements Under IBC Chapter 17

Course Description: This 6.5-hour course focuses on compliance with Chapter 17 of the International Building Code (IBC) on special inspections. The course addresses inspection requirements for soils, foundations, concrete, masonry, and steel and examines code compliant design for wind and seismic loads and fire resistance.
Learning Objectives:
Learning Objective 1: Learners will be able to explain the purpose of special inspections under the International Building Code, detailing the roles of the special inspector, architect, engineer and building official in ensuring the quality of materials and the safety of building components as constructed.
Learning Objective 2: Learners will be able to identify requirements for special inspections of soils and foundations, verifying bearing capacity of soils at the building site to ensure safety of building occupants.
Learning Objective 3: Learners will be able to define requirements for structural steel construction inspections, verifying the safety and efficacy of welded and bolted connections between structural steel components.
Learning Objective 4: Learners will be able to describe requirements for special inspections of sprayed fire-resistant materials to verify the thickness of the fire-resistant material, as well as the strength of the bond with the substrate, ensuring the efficacy of the fire-resistant materials as installed.
