Mary Ann Uhlmann
Founder of the Urban Horticulture Consulting, LLCMs. Uhlmann is an environmental horticulturist, accredited green roof professional, certified permaculture practitioner and certified sustainable landscape professional. Her firm, Urban Horticulture Consulting, provides green infrastructure planning, training, and asset management. Over the past 19 years, she has been a passionate advocate for green infrastructure education and policy making. Based in Marietta, Georgia, her projects include green roof design, assessments and remediation, maintenance protocol development, FLL compliance testing and the development of public outreach programs. Recent speaking engagements include The Little Rock Sustainability Conference, P80 Global Summit, and The Green Infrastructure Foundation Seattle Design Charette.

Course Description: This 6.5-hour course explores horticultural strategies to optimize green infrastructure projects, focusing on plant physiology, soil design, plant selection and placement, and maintenance protocols. The course will explore the impact of plant form and soil composition on runoff management, provide techniques for designing resilient green spaces, and discuss how to maintain and evaluate the effectiveness of green infrastructure installations.

Learners will be able to explore the impact of plant physiology and soil composition on runoff quality and quantity and discuss plant biological processes and water use.

Learners will be able to assess engineered soil design strategies and understand the balancing of aggregates and organic matter components to increase efficiency.
