All attendees must log-on through their own email – attendees may not watch together if they wish to earn continuing education credit. HalfMoon Education Inc. must be able to prove attendance if either the attendee or HalfMoon Education Inc. is audited. 

Certificates of completion can be downloaded in PDF form upon passing a short quiz. A link to the quiz will be sent to each qualifying attendee immediately after the webinar. The certificate can be downloaded from the Results page of the quiz upon scoring 80% or higher.

This webinar is open to the public and is designed to qualify for 6.5 PDHs for professional engineers and 6.0 HSW continuing education hours for licensed architects in New York.

HalfMoon Education is deemed an approved continuing education sponsor for New York engineers and architects via its registration with the American Institute of Architects Continuing Education System (AIA/CES).

The American Institute of Architects Continuing Education System has approved this course for 6.5 HSW LUs (Sponsor No. J885). Only full participation is reportable to the AIA/CES.

Arthur “Art” Pakatar, LEED Green Associate, CEA

Principal of The Pakatar Group

Mr. Pakatar is the principal of The Pakatar Group, a firm focused on advancing best practices in the built environment. With over 20 years of industry experience, he specializes in home performance, energy efficiency, and construction-related training and consulting. He holds professional certifications from the International Code Council (ICC), the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE), the Building Performance Institute (BPI), the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), PHIUS and RESNET. Mr. Pakatar is a certified Code Enforcement Officer in New York State and holds ICC credentials as an Energy Code Inspector and Plans Examiner. Throughout his career, he has played an active role in the development and implementation of building codes, contributing to the creation of policies and protocols that support energy efficiency and code compliance. Over the past two decades, Mr. Pakatar has designed and delivered training programs for code officials, design professionals, and construction industry stakeholders across the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, and nationwide. Recognized as a subject matter expert, he continues to support the evolution of codes and standards through education, technical assistance, and policy engagement.

Course Title: 2024 Residential Code of New York State

Delivery Method: Live Online 

Course Description: This 6.5-hour course examines the 2024 Residential Code of New York State, including recent amendments, administrative provisions, and structural requirements. It explains the code’s organization and recent updates, with discussion on how changes affect planning, construction, and system design in residential projects. The course also studies code provisions that support safe, efficient, and compliant residential development.

Learning Objectives: 

Learning Objective 1: Learners will be able to identify key amendments in the 2024 New York State Residential Code and explain the code’s adoption and enforcement timeline.

Learning Objective 2: Learners will be able to navigate administrative provisions and planning criteria, including wind and seismic design requirements.

Learning Objective 3: Learners will be able to apply code requirements to shell construction design, including fire safety systems, load requirements, ingress/egress, and flood protections.

Learning Objective 4: Learners will be able to evaluate code provisions for energy efficiency, electrification, and mechanical, fuel, plumbing, and electrical systems.
