He has been retained as an expert engineer in over one hundred and fifty litigation matters on single and class-action legal cases by the U.S. government, law firms, and insurance carriers at the State and Federal levels, working with both plaintiff and defendant sides.
Mr. Hemmatyar’s understanding of core engineering and legal concepts has enabled him to effectively assist a wide range of clientele. Mr. Hemmatyar also conducts research, has assisted in the development of building codes and standards, and has supervised the construction of domestic and international projects. Assistant Professor of Civil, Environmental and Construction Engineering at University of Hawai'i at ManoaDr. Bantis is in his first year as an Assistant Professor in Civil, Environmental and Construction Engineering at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. He specializes in structural engineering, earthquake engineering, seismic hazard and risk analysis, performance-based design, seismology, and regional seismic risk analyses. Dr. Bantis has published research in leading seismology and earthquake engineering journals and has presented his research at many conferences over the last five years. He teaches undergraduate and graduate structural engineering courses as well as a new course on seismic hazard and performance-based earthquake engineering at the University of Hawaii at Manoa.
Prior to joining the University of Hawaii at Manoa, Dr. Bantis obtained his Ph.D. and M.S. at Stanford University in structural engineering where he also worked as a graduate research assistant, lecturer, and teaching assistant. Prior to studying and working at Stanford University, he obtained his B.E. in Civil Engineering at The Cooper Union. Dr. Bantis also has three years of industry experience working as a site/civil, structural, and geotechnical engineer at Lagan Engineering and Environmental Services and Skanska in New York City. He has delineated and/or assisted with delineating hundreds of acres of freshwater and tidal wetlands and has managed and conducted numerous surveys for endangered/threatened flora and fauna. Managing Principal of Integrated Project Solutions, LLC (IPS), OhioPS is a consulting company that specializes in many aspects of design, building and construction. Much of that specialization pertains to Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Virtual Design and Construction (VDC). BIM and VDC are both up and coming fields in the building and construction industry and IPS is regarded as a leader in that field. Mr. Furlong’s introduction into the world of BIM came rather easy and stems from the fact that he has been designing in 3D for more than two decades using various programs. He has been responsible for coordinating more than $650M in construction dollars across the nation. The projects he has been involved with have been of varied type and use. From health care facilities to higher education to mixed use buildings, as well as museums, Mr. Furlong has experience in all areas and building types. He carries the CM-BIM (Certificate of Management – Building Information Modeling) designation, an accreditation awarded by the AGC after completion of the required coursework and passing a national exam. Mr. Furlong is also involved in the instructional training of the CM-BIM courses as an approved instructor. He has previously been an Applications Engineer with Autodesk and is certified to train and support various Autodesk products. Mr. Furlong is a BIM advocate and actively participates on the AGC Committee to revise the ConsensusDocs BIM documents. He has taken his knowledge and experience of construction and coupled that with his ability to use 3D software. As a byproduct of that, he has the ability to create a virtual environment from which to study building design and the interaction between the various system components that will be installed within that building.

Electrical Engineering Discipline Lead, Partner at BKV GroupMr. Kurdi has been serving the electrical industry for over 30 years as an engineer, electrician and trainer. Mr. Kurdi has engineered (designed, specified and analyzed) government buildings (police stations, sheriff’s offices, fire stations, city halls, court houses, libraries, and jails), housing buildings (affordable, senior, assistant, memory care, adaptable use and student), hospitals, data centers, sport arenas, commercial office buildings, water/wastewater treatment plants and electric utility distribution and substations. Mr. Kurdi’s experience as an electrician includes estimating, laying out, wiring, installing and maintaining electrical systems for residential and commercial buildings. He has served as an engineer on construction projects in numerous locations in Texas, including San Antonio, Arlington, Bryan and Manor. He has developed and taught thousands of seminar hours over the years at Dunwoody College of Technology, Minnesota Electrical Association, IEEE and others. The seminars include NEC Code, electrician’s exam, MV system, electrical wiring, apprenticeship, estimation, electrical design, Revit MEP, and project management. Mr. Kurdi holds a BS degree in Electrical Engineering and a master’s degree in Adult Education. He is a registered electrical engineer (PE) in 37 states, including Minnesota and Texas. He holds a Class A master electrician license from the State of Minnesota. Currently, Mr. Kurdi is a senior electrical engineer and department head at BKV Group (A&E Firm with offices in Chicago, Dallas, DC & Minneapolis). Mr. Kurdi served as NCEL Board Member (Jan 2021 – present), IAEI MN Chapter president (Jan 2018 – Jan 2023), chair of IEEE Twin Cities PES/IAS (Aug 2019 – Jan 2023), Minnesota State Board of Electricity member (Jan 2018 – Jan 2020).
